    Exhaust pieces and parts

They may come up as unavailable on the Volvo parts site because Volvo put out a service bulletin basically saying they didn’t think they were helpful & they can melt and block the exhaust if the engine overheats. So they recommended not replacing them. However the parts are still out there...

    Penta 4.3 GL in saltwater?

Some Volvos have the heat exchanger mounted horizontally some have it mounted vertically on the starboard side. The 4.3 is quite compact shorter than a 4 cyl or V8 but as wide as a V8. They are pretty durable the main things to watch are leaks from the intake gaskets (Vortec) and exhaust...

    Penta 4.3 GL in saltwater?

If you wanted to add closed cooling you would have to assess the internal condition of the engine by removing the thermostat housing & front circulation pump so you can see what the cooling passages look like. If you see light surface rust, ok, but if you see flaking cast iron, I would not add...

    Valve seal replacement on 4.3

Yep those manifolds look like new. Get the heads checked out (magnafluxed). Clean and examine all sealing surfaces

    Valve seal replacement on 4.3

I'm not seeing anything there either, how about the exhaust manifolds?

    Valve seal replacement on 4.3

I’m not seeing a clear sign of a leak with the intake so I’d carefully check the exhaust manifolds esp on the side where the piston tops looked steam cleaned.

    Valve seal replacement on 4.3

The plugs don't look lean, from what we can see, also if it's a 2004 Sea Ray then it should be a Merc rigged 4.3 and by then, it should have had the dry joint manifolds & elbows so I wouldn't expect water leaking back into the cyls to be that likely at all, unless either one rusted out. Fresh...

    Valve seal replacement on 4.3

This looks like a reman engine due to the .020 stamp on the pistons indicating that it was bored .020 but what's more concerning to me is the flecks of something in #2 cyl (front cyl on the starboard side) of something (aluminum?) and 2 scratch marks on the cyl wall. Also what's the flaky...

    SX outdrive

https://www.michiganmotorz.com/evinrude-johnson-triple-guard-grease-8-oz coat the mating surfaces with this grease and it won't seize up there again, also coat the driveshaft splines with it. I've used it extensively in salt water and never had a problem pulling the drive and my boat sits in...

Selling Newer Boat For Older Larger?

It depends on your tolerance for projects; & the condition of available boats. The biggest problem you’ll find is water intrusion from the opening for the outdrive rotting the transom and rain water rotting decks & stringers. I wouldn’t do it. Once was enough for me. Next boat will be nearly...

Hello all, I want to install a remote oil filter mount for my 4.3 V6, is it neccessary to replace the filter mount bypass valve?

More to the story.... I found out (and I THOUGHT this was the case) that the 4.3 is different than the small block V8s. It does not use the removable adapter with 2 bolts and the bypass staked into the adapter. The stud for the filter is threaded right into the block and the bypass is staked...

Help !! Mercruiser Alpha 1 Generation 1 Power Steering Actuator

I replaced my whole unit with a used ebay one. Inside that control valve are seals that start to leak P/S fluid, one thing to keep in mind is that there is a grease fitting on the back side of most of those units. If you grease them too much it can make the seals fail inside. You only need a...

    AQ125/270 Still overheating (PLEASE HELP)

Is the exhaust manifold & elbow clear? They get clogged with cast iron flakes over time. Water has to enter & exit the raw water side of the heat exchanger. Disconnect the feed hose from the heat exchanger to the exhaust manifold & hook up a garden hose to it to test; you should get good flow...

Help !! Mercruiser Alpha 1 Generation 1 Power Steering Actuator

When I did mine I pulled both exhaust manifolds and the only issue was the cotter pins that OMC & Volvo used to retain the mounting bolts; Merc used a lock plate; not sure if they are easier to deal with. That & the 2 that are under the clevis. The 4 cotter pins from hell! About the control...

Help !! Mercruiser Alpha 1 Generation 1 Power Steering Actuator

I have the same unit on my OMC Cobra, except it was painted OMC grey. Guess what, the control valve is the same old Bendix type that was used on Corvettes and Mustangs, from the 60s well into the 70s (for the Corvette, till the '84 came out). The parts to rebuild the control valve (the part...
