    Lost gearage?

Thats a gen two would stillgo by bondos comment of getting a SEI drive. i would be worried about why someone sealed the transom housing to transom with rtv and 5200. Usually if that is leaking it is due to a rotten transom.

    Lost gearage?

This is the best answer. On an alpha gen one or earlier drive without the lube monitor bottle, best to check the lube level frequently. If the input shaft seal goes the lube leaks into the bellows and you will never see it before the upper gear set runs dry. If its in a lift or trailer kept...

3.0 Mercruiser seems to hang or seize when starting

As bt mentions veryify battery and electrical connections. Take spark plugs out of engine should spin by hand. If it hangs up might pull the drive as drive ujoints or gimbal bearing could be frozen if it sat with water…. Engine could be corroded too and hang up

Water Leaking from sides of stern drive help

Yes those are the idle relief ports exhaust and the spent cooling water it contains will come out when running on the muffs. It wont be even side to side in terms of how much water. I think on my 3.0 it mostly came out one side

    97 Mercruiser 3.0LX will run/won't run

There's no gunk on yours you can measure it with multi meter set to ohms for your knowledge base. Usually this is related to shifting in or out of gear, worn shift cable will drag the switch and trip it cutting ignition vs causing a quick ignition cutoff/ stumble required to get the dog clutch...

    97 Mercruiser 3.0LX will run/won't run

You can measure ohms across the switch to see if it closes when actuated How did u zero in on shift interrupt ? If you installed a controller is it tripping the interrupt switch? On water would disconnect it if engine dies and see if it starts as this will kill ignition

What is this hose coming off of fuel pump

Yeah wrong hose Napa sells the tygon From fuel line set up Looks like some one swapped out a pump with the bowl on the bottom to the one with the bowl on the top. They used both styles over the years on 3.0 s In addition to the tygon up to carb would get a 90 elbow where the tygon attaches...

    Replacing 95 merc 4.3 with 87 OMC 4.3

Absolutely that is a common cause of hydrolock. The surfaces between the exhaust and water passages have to be flat so gasket can seal. Big issue especially in salt water. Post a pic of them and the elbow folks here can probably steer you wether dressing them with a file, belt sander, or having...

    is this normal?

How long - if the fuel pump doesn't pump, the anti siphon valve is stuck or needle and seat is stuck closed a long time. Take the fuel line off the carb put it in a container and crank it to see if fuel is flowing. If fuel is there, there may be a carb inlet filter that could be clogged or...

    Replacing 95 merc 4.3 with 87 OMC 4.3

If your flywheel is not drilled and tapped for the triangular coupler I wonder if the engine is earlier than 87. Typically in a change over year there is a lag in what marine engines are in the assembly que. Is the '87' flywheel 14" in diameter? if not the older style merc coupler for smaller...

    Replacing 95 merc 4.3 with 87 OMC 4.3

None of the OMC items will work (with exception of starter and intake manifold) so you can toss or sell them. keep the balancer and flywheel that came on the 87 with it. You may have some fitment issues to work through on the pulleys and you may need a different mercruiser coupler if the...

    Replacing 95 merc 4.3 with 87 OMC 4.3

Strip the omc one down to the long block and it should swap over to use all the mercruiser accessories. Underneath it they are both chevy 4.3's. would keep the flywheel and balancer with the donor engine incase there are any balancing variance between the years. would look at the exhaust...
