    Crack found in the block

Ok easy enough to drain going forward That’s why I suggested getting a truck 4.3 and marinizing it. Places like Michigan motorz and rapido marine sell reman engines If the rest of the boat is worth investing in In 2015 I bought a clean 21 ft bowrider for $3k had 37 hrs on it was in perfect...

    TRS sterndrive maintenance

Yeah same thing, just didn't want him thinking it was a bolt in to get to a non obsolete drive. I suspect finding the right folks you can keep a TRS going for a few more years.

    TRS sterndrive maintenance

One thing to keep in mind TRS has a different transom hole. If yiu ever wanted to repower with bravos you would have glass work to do.

    Crack found in the block

No get a new long block. if it were on the outside yes you can JB it, not on the inside. First how did you winterize? second you need a new base engine or reman long block look at places like michigan motorz. Really low buck get a used 4.3 vortec truck engine from wrecking yard. Strip it...

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

should be a blue/white spark should jump 3/8" or more. Try it out on a good running engine so you can see what it should look like for comparison. IF spark is ok confirm it by dumping some fuel down the carb. If sufficient spark is there any gas dumped it should fire for a sec or two. If it...

    forward drive/bravo 4

Thanks for your comments. The antea for an R5 or surf boat is not in my cards, plus I like mechanical projects ... hence the thought. Figured some sacks or other mods would be needed as well... I haven't seen a B 4 sold new or used anywhere so may be a moot point

Will my oil pan gasket leak or should I re-do it?

I think you are supposed to trim the 1/2" where they overlap, not double them up with silicone in between. For me I would redo them as there is no way they can sit flat. I would run it on the ground before you put it in it is easy to do and look for leaks

2004 Mercruiser 3.0 Water/Oil Mix Coming Out of Breather

When the entire crankcase fills up over time with milky frothy water then it comes out the breather hose. Drain the oil out if it will come out (not too gummed up)- there will be way more than 4 qts in there. If you watch the oil level you will see it rise from water entry. I bought a boat as...

    Alpha 1 gen 1 compatibility

see post #4 here https://forums.iboats.com/threads/alpha-lower-with-pre-load-pin.689128/ states that MC1 and laterR/MR/Alpha gen ones can swap uppers and lowers all day long so no issue
  13. Scott06

    Alpha 1 gen 1 compatibility

You cannot swap gen one and gen two lowers the MC1 drive pictured would bolt in place of a gen 1 drive if they had the same upper ratio. I believe the lower would swap on the gen one upper. only concern might be if it has the preload pin on dive shaft not sure if that causes and issue using...

2004 Mercruiser 3.0 Water/Oil Mix Coming Out of Breather

you have it right pressure test the cooling system. The symptoms you describe are that of a cracked block where cooling water enters the crankcase. You can have great compression with a cracked block like this as they rarely crack in the cylinder As kenny mentioned usually they will crack on...
