I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Boo-yah! We have primer! I went out first thing this morning to check status and the primer is dry, smooth and flat! No interaction with the SE primer like I had with the rattle can variant. The LVLP spray gun did the job. Yay! :D Just waiting on the weather now. Humidity is...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

The LVLP gun worked really well. Almost no overspray and laid the material down nicely. No big clouds of paint hanging in the air. Cleanup was a little tougher than when I used the rattle cans... which I simply threw into the trash! Tomorrow I'll know how well the gray primer worked...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got the console sanded and wiped as well as completely blowing the hull with compressed air, followed by wiping with a tack cloth. The components are now ready for painting. Scrounged around and found adapters to connect the new stuff to my compressor. Sealed the connections with Teflon tape...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Went to HF and picked up a new respirator this morning, along with 100 paint filters and a water/oil separator for the compressor. Plus a freebie "grabber" which is worth what I paid for the thing. I printed out the spray gun manual from a .pdf file and am heading out to the garage now...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Yesterday my old bud and I went to a local metal shop and I had them cut some 0.063" aluminum sheet for me so that I can make end caps for the "new" dual seat storage boxes. They let us go back through the shop and it was huge! So cool to see guys working with the big machines making...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I got back to work today. Once it became clear that my bud wasn't going to have time to paint the boat and I had completed my LVLP research and purchase process, it was time to do something. Besides, I got pretty bored sitting around watching TV; even when I was sick. :grumpy: So this...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Okay, I just ordered this kit online. I was able to use my eGift card too! :D Free delivery and it'll be here in 2 days. Cool beans! The only thing that I don't like is that there isn't a case, just the lightweight plastic molding inside a box. Ah, well. I figure that I can use the small...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

That is oh so true for a Boat Restoration Hobbyist/Enthusiast. Alas, I am not that. I'm simply an angler who needs a boat to get on the water and out to the fish. Boat refurbishment/restoration/improvement is but a means to an end for me. I loathe fishing from the bank. Take today for...

And here's the KF just waiting for my bud. I hope he has time soon!

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Still no paint. Haven't heard from my buddy today. He's a very busy young man. He lives next door and I just now saw him driving in with one of those giant rolls of hay for his 2 horses. Then he was gone again. I'm getting antsy. I'm fast running out of time. Realistically, I doubt that I...

Guys, I'm still around but my laptop is down. Plenty to report after I get it back. But here's a teaser. :D

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Going "au naturel" with the aluminum hull is a fallback position for sure. Am stripping the console... again.. Hopefully for the last time. I bought a quart of Rust-Oleum aircraft remover. Works quite well. Temperature is only 69 degrees but the white paint and primer...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I think I'm in trouble. :pout: I mixed up a small batch of the Majic white paint with hardener and reducer at the correct ratios and let it "cook" as shown in the WoG method. I used two foam rollers and applied a thin coat as directed. Time was about 1130. Temp was 80 degrees, humidity 70%...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, I was pretty bummed about the paint situation yesterday. Didn't improve a lot when I went back out there this morning either. :grumpy: The rolled on primer didn't cause any major problems and didn't react with the SE primer. However... Even though the rolled on primer didn't cause the...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Trying once more. The boy stripped all the paint off the console yet again. He was not thrilled. Poor guy. The dark areas are where the primer pilled up. I wet sanded using 2000 grit W/D paper which did help smooth things down a bit, but still not enough. So I bought an...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I wasn't expecting to get anything done today but things turned out better than I'd expected! :) At 7:30 this morning it was 64 degrees and 98% humidity. Not good for painting. I had to run medical errands anyway, so wasn't too disappointed. But while I was out running around, I could feel...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

It rained all morning here and my energy level was low, so not much done today. But this evening the boy and I went out and did a little. I sanded down the lump of JBWW on the hull that some PO had put on there. Nice and smooth now. Console cleaned with stripper and mineral spirits. Final...
