I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Success! :) Today I cut 3 test letters in 3 different sizes; 1/16" thick, 3/32" thick and 1/8" thick. Overall, I like the 3/32" thickness best. I placed each letter against the side of the hull and the 3/32" just looked "better" than the others. My buddy stopped by and he agreed that the...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Time for an update. I've had a busy "doc" week this week which kept me from doing much. Appointments were in the morning and it is still stupidly hot here in the afternoons. Ugh.

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Here we go. Only took a few minutes. When the time comes I will either have a decal made or maybe a laser cut job using very thin aluminum. Time will tell. :joyous:

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Oh yeah, I found a Font to match the script on the Chief. :joyous: MS Word 2007: Vladimir Script

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Yeah, I was thinking about how easy it would be for someone to cut the fence from the back, pull an ATV up behind the boat, then just lift those motors off and whisk away into the night. So we moved the Chief. Many folks around here don't lock their house doors at night and I know of several...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

No KF work today but we did get the garage cleaned up and my wife bought me a new needle file set since I couldn't find my old ones. This week I'll do some letter shaping in the "cool" of the mornings. High temps are still in the low 90s here. Ugh. :blue:

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Today we got the cowlings installed on the twin 70s, covered the motors with tarps and moved the boat to a new parking place. Twice. I'm looking around for a Font which is pretty close to the original script.

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Today the boy and I moved the 70HP Mercurys around. It took hours and both the boy and I are banged up and bruised. :violin: We'll be sore tomorrow but very happy to have gotten it done! :D Although my wife was not happy with either of us working out there in the heat and humidity...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

I started this storage prep work a month ago but finally got things done today. There was one 70HP Mercury stored in my garage on a stand alongside my 50HP Mercury for my Kingfisher. I wanted more room in the shop and I'm also very near the point that I'll start working on the 50, so the 70...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I was going to paint the wood box pieces today but my paint had thickened up a bit.  So I hung some redneck wall insulation and got ready to cut some letters! I still have plenty of fine trim work to do on the letters but hey, they're done! :D

1979 North American 22' Off Shore Boat

For a very brief time in 2009 I had a North American 22' cuddy. I only paid $100 for the hull and got the trailer in a barter deal. Nice lines on the boat but once I got it home and realized how much work and expense it needed, I sold it. For $200. :D  Seriously though the rot below...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Yah! I was inspired by the SC Logo on a new boat, like the one below. Still have to do the fine work to smooth things out a bit. :joyous: Am thinking that I may give the boy a chance to do some scroll saw work. We'll see.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Today I only broke ONE blade! Got greedy on the final turn of the final cut. D'oh. But I did this! :D Now to find my rat-tail and triangle files. They've gotta be around here somewhere, right? :noidea:

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Not much done this morning. I was working with the scroll saw, happily cutting parts and breaking blades  when I got a text from my ol' buddy asking me to bring his tree stand out to the woods for him. The check stand where he hunts had a guy bring out a 200 pound hog and he wanted...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I'm finally getting to do some fun stuff! You'll "C" what I mean below! :tongue-new: Yesterday I set up my scroll saw workspace. I used the spray adhesive to glue the printed logo onto the 1/8" aluminum stock. And this evening before dinner the boy and I went out and figured out how to...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got the second coat onto the boxes today and one interior coat. Quite frankly, there may be LESS orange peel on the boxes from using the roll/roll method than there was on the hull using the spray gun. And that's with "thick" latex porch paint and not enamel. :noidea: I started to change...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Today's work. I did prep stuff for what I'm going to do tomorrow but I'll wait until then to post that up. I placed the now painted black hinges onto the SE primer gray green boxes "just because." I do like the look.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Thanks. My seat boxes will be mounted amidships; at the helm and passenger locations, so no worries about the lean-back problem.

    PlayDoh’s 16 SS resto underway

I'm not a welder at all but that knee brace looks like it could be successfully re-welded by someone who knows what they're doing. As for transom clamps, this is what I did. Didn't need any screws. :D
