I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I rested during the day today and went out at 6:30 with the boy to pick up where we left off yesterday. And I am concerned. :uncomfortableness: This console experiment is teaching me things. Ugh. This is the primer after 3 coats. Note a couple of missed and flaked off spots. So I wet...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I messed up last night. Bad. Really bad. Health crisis. Totally my fault for not paying attention to what was happening with my health. So it snuck up on me and bit me. My bad. Should have gone to the ER but didn't. And my wife is not happy with me! :nono: :yell: But I...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Yeah, there were tornadoes in parts of FL yesterday but thankfully, none around here. The weather is nice again this morning, cool at 55 degrees when I got up although the humidity is still 99%. And my injury seems to be much better today so when it warms up a little more I'll head out to the...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Still plugging along here. Got holes filled, ground down and sanded this morning. As I was going along I found still more very small holes up near the top of the gunnels on the inside. Arghh! Sometimes less is more. I decided to go with the smallest version of the KF bird logo...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Back to making progress. The weather was absolutely spectacular for working outside today! :D Grind down the JBWW, clean, sand. That was the process. Spent a couple hours this morning by myself doing the gunnels inside and the topside of the bow and gunnels and got all the grinding done...

1984 Starcraft 16ft Glutton for Punishment [Splashed July 2019]

Yeah, must be for the larger boats. My 16' Kingfisher doesn't have them.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Those LED nav lights look good. I knew about the angle stuff and was thinking of making a giant protractor for the bow to measure the correct angles. Easy enough to set the angles with a blank slate tinny like ours. I do have the pole light for the bow already, courtesy of the donor boat...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Received this nav/anchor light base today. So now, with the donor boat leftovers, I have 2 working units for the KF. But it does bring up some consternation for me. I do have the LED style nav lights for the bow but they're not USCG approved. Bought them a year or more ago. We don't...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Made some more progress today. Not as much as I'd hoped since we lost 4 or 5 hours of work from the JBWW issue yesterday. I'd hoped today to finish refilling the "bad" holes, grind them down, do some additional cleanup then turtle the hull. Didn't happen though. But we did find a couple...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Three steps forward, one step back. So went today. A learning experience for the boy though. Received the new stainless cleats today. They're smaller than the old Zamak cleats that were previously on the KF but they'll work just fine. We rarely use the cleats anyway.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, the pressure is on again. Our summer vacation starts 9 weeks from today. Last month we made reservations for a lakefront rental with a dock up in Georgia. Really looking forward to taking the KF up there and having a nice, relaxing time. Last year's vacation was nice but pressured...

And I ordered a few items tonight.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

So I ended up using my rotary tool with an 80 grit sanding drum attached to cut through the bulk of the JB WaterWeld. Worked like a charm. It cut through that JB like a hot knife through soft butter. I had to be careful not to be too aggressive, lest I dig a hole in the aluminum. Followed up...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I did some more hole filling by myself this morning. Man, there were a lot of holes. Still have some left that I can't reach! The boy will have to do those. And I ended up having to use a heating pad on my knee for a couple hours after my work this morning. D'oh. Still plenty of work to...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

My morning and early afternoon were shot today. Had breakfast with my buddy then we ran the roads taking care of errands. Got some "smalls" work done today though. I went out early this afternoon (by myself and was admonished by my wife for it ) and took a look at all the holes in...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Received the short grip rivets for the thru-hull bracket connections this afternoon. Popped those babies into place in just a couple minutes. That's all I did today other than rest my left leg.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got the bow brace INSTALLED today! :D Only a month after being removed!  Large flange rivets in place! Yeah, we scratched up the paint a bit during handling, etc. but it's going to be color painted anyway so we'll re-prime then. This is how it looked with the alignment...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Beaten but not defeated... yet. :mad-new: The boy and I went out this evening after dinner to attack that bow brace yet again. And once more it thwarted our efforts. But tomorrow is another day. Counter boring done. Stainless washers test fitted.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Thinking... experimenting... adjusting to reality and whatnot. There is simply no way to get a rivet gun into the space around the brackets, so I went with 1/4-20 stainless bolts with lock nuts for final installation... when the time comes. Holes drilled larger and bolts test fit today.
