    Fuel treatment question.....

One time I was very happy I filled it at the end of the season. That year was 2012. Then, we had Hurricane Sandy. I wasn't able to store that much gasoline then and you couldn't get gas easily for 2 weeks. So, I siphoned out 40 gallons from the boat. Had to pull out the rear seats and siphon it...

No power to ignition (need help please)

Don’t know the answer to your specific question but note to self DO NOT USE A PRESSURE WASHER to clean anything in the engine compartment! It forces water in places where it should not be! You might have to unplug wiring connectors & carefully dry everything out. You also don’t want water in the...

HELP 2005 5.0 MPI OVER REV

Even when set right boat tachs can be off by a lot. Mine reads 150 rpm high at idle, and the difference is more at higher engine speeds.

    Fuel treatment question.....

I used 1.5 year old fuel (E10 stabilized) after my boat was laid up for engine work and it ran fine with no unusual problems. However in this case I would wait till next season to fill up. Try to use fuel less than a year old if you can. I buy fuel for the generator in August & September and if...

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

When we were kids my parents took us to a farm in upstate NY for vacation; this was circa 1960-1964. In 1968 the family retired and sold the farm to none other than…Bob Denver! True story, it was the Red Pine Farm in Bovina Center in upstate NY. We drove by in the summer of 1969 right before the...

A few pix from last week... It is rarely this calm in my boating area, first pic is entrance to our home port, second is looking across LI Sound with coast of Connecticut in the far distance with the Eaton's Neck peninsula in between....

    5.0gi TBI to Carb

Michigan Motorz sells the set up you’d need for a carb conversion (pump, bracket & oil pressure switch). I’d want to see how the original ignition system is connected to the ECM and then figure out how to wire around that…might be able to eliminate the ECM entirely.

First time winterizing my boat myself.

Always better to change oil; if by chance there’s any water in either you want to know that now so that it can be dealt with over the off season. In addition while most people wouldn’t bother I think that doing an oil analysis on the motor oil is a good idea. It will tell you if cooling water is...

First time winterizing 4.3 mercruiser, alpha one.

The problem with the suck AF up the drive method is that most people don’t understand how raw water cooling works. The system has excess capacity and to keep the engine warm enough the thermostat functions as a gate valve. It only opens as needed to keep the engine temp close to the temp rating...

Changing the ignition on an 1989 4.3 liter omc Cobra from points to Delco EST Ignition

You need to contact CDI electronics & buy an ESA module that will work with the Delco EST ignition system.

I’m not sure about the wiring set up on the Volvo but I think if you can study the schematic you might be able to figure it out. If someone has one to post up then we can make suggestions

350 MAG winterizing - which method is correct?

Yep that's what worries me. I'll use the 5 gallon bucket under the garboard drain, if it comes close to filling it, fine, if not then I hope we can reach the drains on the block on this boat. Merc really should have alternate instructions on what to do if the damn thing clogs up! The old style...

    Polishing or paint

I’d try to restore the gel if you can, painting is expensive and may not be as durable as gel depending on what paint is used. That said I had mine painted in Imron ten years ago and it still looks great.

350 MAG winterizing - which method is correct?

These systems might work on an aluminum block engine but on cast iron it’s risky because of how cast iron corrodes; it flakes off and those flakes clog up those single drain systems. Maybe in fresh water that’s not corrosive but in salt…risky. Going to winterize my brothers boat with the Merc...

350 MAG winterizing - which method is correct?

That looks like some kind of single point drain system…follow the hoses & see where they terminate. Is there a valve or cap on the end? If so the one thing that you want to watch for is how much water actually drains from each one. The block should hold 2 1/2–31/2 gallons each manifold about 1/2...
