I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 12 days and counting. I had a horrendous health day today. Started in the middle of the night. I never left the house all day. My wife says that I've been pushing too hard and overdoing the effort. Could be. Finally this evening I went out to the garage with the boy and...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 13 days and counting. I can learn! :D Bought another sheet of plywood this morning. Rented a Makita circular saw and bought a plywood blade for it as well. Made progress! This is my B&D circular saw that I was given for my birthday last month. The base plate is wobbly and cannot...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 14 days and counting. I've said it before and I'll say it again... I absolutely, positively SUCK at this wood working carp! :blue: I sure wish I could get one of you master craftsman to come over and cut this wood for me. :grumpy: It's 93 degrees out there. We worked for hours...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 15 days and counting. Well, I was supposed to be all done working on this boat as of today! Yeah, right! But we're still moving forward. First thing this morning was to go to HF and buy a couple new palm sanders. Got the 20% discount and freebie with each of them. When we...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 16 days and counting. Still way behind schedule but moving forward. We worked for a solid 8 hours out there today. Looking at the pix, it doesn't seem like much got done but we were hard at it and only took 1/2 hour for lunch. And I even skipped my afternoon nap! :sleep...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 18 days and counting. Feeling better today. Much better! Got stuff done today! :D Started out with the washed transom. Then I scraped and scrubbed it again, following up with TSP substitute to get rid of the chalky white paint that was over top of the original Starcraft cream...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 19 days and counting. And I'm getting farther behind schedule. :sour: Bad health day today. I was okay in the morning; did some work in the old shed and ran errands, including buying tool and supply stuff for the boat job. But the afternoon brought problems and I'm still not back to...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T Minus 20 days and counting. Boo Yah!! Two old men and a boy got the job done! The lower unit has been reinstalled! :D My 74 y.o. buddy came over this morning to render assistance with the LU. We pulled the spark plugs and he rocked the flywheel back and forth to align the splines...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

The Mercury hood latch has a missing leg and I'll need to get something fabricated in order to use the cowling.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Orders from headquarters... we're done for the evening! I've been directed to stay indoors and watch my old TV shows (like Yancy Derringer & Have Gun Will Travel) while my wife does some stuff around the house. It's a comfort for her. Why, I don't know but she enjoys listening to the...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 21 days and counting. Behind schedule and running out of time. Typical for me! Three weeks from today we'll be in Georgia somewhere. Will the Kingfisher be with us? Stay tuned to this Bat-Channel! My wife just got home and brought lunch so we're taking a break. I...

    1985 Mercury 50HP 2-Stroke 4-Cylinder

Couldn't get a replacement bowl for the 32 year old float bowl. Running out of time so I decided to just go with JB Weld on the outside of the bowl only on the scratches and scrapes. I didn't feel comfortable with putting anything inside the bowl where it could potentially come off and clog...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Worked on the stern too. Used the drill brush and Goo Gone and did make some progress cleaning off the gunky stuff. But we still have a ways to go. Other folks have run into the same difficulties as I recall. Oh yeah, we also tried the dryer fabric softener sheets with some Dawn...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 22 days and counting. Carburetor decision made. Couldn't obtain a replacement bowl. Went with JB Weld WaterWeld on the outside of the float bowl only. The putty type. I just didn't feel comfortable with having something on the inside of the bowl. The corrosion on the inside is...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Ah, I do have some Permatex gasket maker. I even know where it is! Got the transom back out of the boat this evening. Easy peasy. Started testing what works best on the gunk on the stern. Tried Goof Off and it was not very effective. Next was Goo Gone and that was definitely better...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

T minus 23 days and counting. Made some good progress today. Sort of. And we're not done yet. Will be going back out there this evening. My mechanic buddy came over this morning to help me with the shifter controls. I explained that I wanted to take 2 broken shifter controls and swap parts to...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I took this pic before I finished cleaning the carb. Is that red goop Loctite of some kind? It sort of flakes off when scraped. Acts more like a sealant than a thread locker. Should I replace it where it's missing? Or maybe use real Loctite?

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Home again. And glad for it! :) Here's the donor motor I'm hoping to check out. It's a 40HP not a 50, but that carb float bowl sure looks like mine! Seller says he has other parts as well.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

One carb thoroughly cleaned, reassembled and ready to remount! :) Reassembly started. So I was working along, following the manual and it says there are two types of floats; a black one and a white one. The black one is adjustable but the white one is not, it can only be replaced...
