    Altenator and Starter Replacement

It is a metal screen that prevents flames from ignited vapors from escaping from the electrical component; so for example if an explosive mixture of fuel vapors gets inside the starter, alt or distributor and is ignited the screen stops the flame from traveling outward & igniting the rest of the...

Burning Rubber Smell and White Smoke from Engine?

Sounds like your exhaust mat be overheating if those manifolds & elbows are original they might be way past their expiration date (clogged by rust, not cooling & overheating the rubber exhaust hoses). Water cooled exhaust on an inboard has to be maintained unlike automotive exhaust. Get an IR...

    Altenator and Starter Replacement

Yes. They are ignition protected. Do not use auto anything on your I/O for: Alt Starter Distributor Carb Fuel pump I like ARCO for alternators & starters

    2012 VP 300 C-A Exhaust manifolds getting too hot - DTC 441 & 442

Even if the engine doesn’t overheat due to the design of the exhaust manifolds if the air pocket just happens to be right near the location of the temp sensor then you can get those codes I’m guessing. So for it to not have any codes you probably can’t have any leaks at all in this system. I’d...

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

Agreed that’s what I thought worries about depending on a regulator to not overpower the carb

    5.0GL-C won’t get on plane

There are also 2 other things that could be related…. Anti siphon valve on the fuel tank fitting & the screen on the pick up tube in the tank. There may be a small screen in the carb inlet area with on Holley carbs (I think that’s what you’re working on) that you can check too….

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

Also you are going to need some parts to make the throttle hookup which you can find on Holley’s website

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

That’s a good question actually for anyone who wants to convert. You need a low pressure fuel pump & the unit you have for EFI won’t work unless there’s a way to just use the low pressure pump separately (carb needs only 4-6 psi fuel pressure vs EFI much higher). So you probably need to buy a...

    Stalls out hot

The 2.3 in-line 4 cyl OHC is an adapted Ford engine used extensively in small Fords for many years (Pinto Bobcat Mustang Fairmont even the Ranger pick up). I think OMC equipped them with a Rochester 2bbl & points distributor. I’ll have to look in my manuals to see what else I can find out… If...

    Stalls out hot

Is your auto choke opening as it should when the engine warms up? Cold engine needs a rich fuel mixture but once warm that will cause poor running.

    2012 VP 300 C-A Exhaust manifolds getting too hot - DTC 441 & 442

Ah I knew they must have had a way to do that given the design of the exhaust manifolds

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

For engines the size of a 5.0-5.7 spread bore carbs are a good compromise, better than a 2bbl & better than a square bore 4bbl. Good low speed performance from the small primaries but still has the kick from the secondaries that marine engines need... GM engineers knew what they were doing when...

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

I don't see a carb adding any significant amount of power vs EFI under most circumstances.... As far as the warm up it depends partly on your climate, here in the North East our summer temps don't require that much warm up time (but my raw water cooled I/O with the 160 stat always takes longer...
