Cosmetic damage to outdrive or replace it?

If it's behind the prop seal it's not just cosmetic. It is however fairly easy to fix by a competent welder.

To Keep/Repair or Junk it? 1985 Bayliner Capri 1400

I would get a motor like that running. A 115 Merc can be worth your time to get your money back. An electric motor place should be able to rebuild it.

Long term engine storage prep question

SBC engines, will be ok if you just let them sit. Especially the one that has only assembly lube in it.. Make sure you get oil pressure to that one before you let it sit but it'll be ok. You can loosen the rocker arms if you like. keep in mind that a 3 wire delco and an HEI are not USCG approved

    1967 40 hp electshift rich/lean trouble shoot?

I could be wrong, but that looks like the electric choke that is on my '66 Johnson Super Seahorse 40hp ( Evinrude Big Twin 40hp ). My '66 is mechanical shift the carburator looks the same

To Keep/Repair or Junk it? 1985 Bayliner Capri 1400

I bought a 14' boat because it's easier to tow long distance and cheaper to run and I can take it out far more than I could if it were larger. My use case was fairly specific. I actually have a 18' as well. If you think you might want something larger just buy larger. If you are boating in...

    Towing and Launching

Knowing a bit about Subaru's.. I would not tow with a JATCO CVT. I've seen some hokey trailer setups on Subaru's over the years but they seem to handle it ( I'd never try ). The best was an older outback with a 1 1/2" reciever hitch double adapted to 2 1/2" with a 4" drop reversed into a...

To Keep/Repair or Junk it? 1985 Bayliner Capri 1400

The motor is roughly twice the hp that it should have. It was rated for either 50 or 75hp. However that is likely not why the transom failed.. That era Bayliner is known to rot. They were built with cheap materials and slammed out as fast as they could during the 80's boating boom There is...

    Log splitter. Bushings versus bearings

Well, here is the thing. The HF tires are not rated for road speeds ( or DOT at all ), and neither are the bushings.. So if your going to tow this down the road, you need new wheels with bearings.. But if you can throw it on a trailer to get it home, then run the wheels with bushings

How to Switch to Antifreeze Cooled Engine

He says 1960 something Searay... A 301 is a Pontiac engine, which Pontiac was used in some marine applications, but not the 301 I don't think. I bet the boat originally had a Pontiac 350 or something and a 301 was dropped in to get it running. 301's can be had for free as they are generally...

    1946 CHRYSLER INLINE 6!

If it's a 23" block, you can find heads really easy. There are tons of Military NOS parts floating around for them. I forgot the company that has the parts but Google will find it. They were built into the early 70s as industrial engines. Last used in a production vehicle in the early 60s. If...

    Windows 11 yes/no?

As a windows user ( used a LOT of linux distributions through the years too ) , I'll say that Linux will never gain mainstream attention for many professional programs, and GNU license stuff, while good for being free, and some exceptionally well for being free will only go so far, because...

Bearcat 55 impeller and oil filter help

Your right. I looked at it. Not right. I think that is the filter that is unobtainable that the Crosley boards are referencing as NLA. CH11RP However, I think you have an oil filter adapter just like the Crosleys, and if so. Service Motors sells modified adapters...

Bearcat 55 impeller and oil filter help

since 24104 lists for home heating oil as well... I'd chance and buy one of these https://www.amazon.com/General-2605-Epoxy-Coated-Replacement-Cartridge/dp/B0069VY1AY/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=furnace+oil+filter&qid=1642019569&sr=8-8 The filtration specs match up and the threads do as well. It...

    trailer tires, sizes, ratings..and switching...

Your talking about either an 18.5 or a 20.5 tire right? Up here where it gets cold, they are generally refereed to as snowmobile trailer tires. Many of them are towed hundreds of miles to the Tug Hill Plateau.. The 12" will only marginally reduce the speed of the bearings and you will need to...

    Windows 11 yes/no?

Win 10 has a couple more years to go before you need to think about 11. I forget the end of service date. As far as 10, it's still free if you have a Win 7 key that has not yet been used on 10. This is the same game MS played with 10

    Vintage Tire Issues

Right, and the metric equal would be 155/80R12 and you won't find that in a trailer tire

    Vintage Tire Issues

145R12 is right about 22" almost on the dot when inflated.. I did just check the sectional width of the 145R12 Carlisle Radial Trail RH LRE, the tire I would probably buy, and it is listed as 6.0", so it really does convert to 6.00-12. They rate 1,500 lbs each so that gives you plenty of...
