    Volvo penta spark plugs

Hi there. Honestly. They just don’t run well at all with anything less than platinum. Even platinum don’t work too well. Iridium are only ones that run well on mine. Added to the fact that the manual specs these plugs too. Not sure why anyone would go against the oem advice perhaps. The vortec...

    Inboard replacing

Is there room for it ? Then there is the mounts to change and glass in. Then there is the load of work to change the alpha one to bravo and all that involves with transom work etc etc. Then there is the huge weight difference between a 4.3 and a big block 7.4. I’d think it would be a little too...

Cummins mercruiser 1.7l 120hp parts and help

Hi. These engines are found in cars over here in Europe…in Vauxhall and Opel small cars. The marine version has obviously some added parts. Are you sure the turbo is ok ? That’s the usual culprit. Cylinder head issues are common too on these. They have a terrible reputation in boats, I’m...

1982 Volvo Penta 4.3 GL swapped out with 1991 Mercruiser 5.0 thunderbolt

That makes more sense now. I’d think there won’t be too much difference in power perhaps. The 4.3 gl will likely be about 205hp or so. The 5.0 merc there will be about 220-230 or so. The ratio is a bit low for a v8 perhaps.

    Volvo penta spark plugs

Hi. You absolutely require the 993’s at a minimum for these mpi gxi engines. Normal plugs just don’t work well if at all. The preferred would be the NGK 5599

1982 Volvo Penta 4.3 GL swapped out with 1991 Mercruiser 5.0 thunderbolt

Hi. Not sure I understand a couple of things here. I’d be very sure there wasn’t a 1982 4.3 gl. They didn’t come along until many years later. Also, a 4.3 isn’t a 305ci. The 5.0 will be though.

    Which Mercruiser engines...?

As bondo has said…if you go too much larger, you’d half the time need to think about drive ratios. If you’re lucky you might have one of the higher ratio 4.3’s like a 1.6. Then you might get away with a prop pitch change perhaps. But usually the more powerful of the v8 short blocks might use a...

    Merc 80hp 4stroke restarting itself???

Yeah. That’s exactly what it’s like. Same thing on a car I have now. Was very surprised by it.

    Merc 80hp 4stroke restarting itself???

Haha. You did well enough I thought 😂. Yeah it really surprised me too. It definitely wouldn’t be corrosion. It’s a mint engine and all but showroom brand new condition all round. Certain it’s not because of an issue like that, I’d be sure. I’ll need to look up the electrical diagrams and see...

    Vapor lock

Might be right Scott. And it’s certainly not ever an issue I’ve known here in Scotland. But I have read occasionally that some 350 mag mpi in particular, with cool fuel…have apparently suffered it. Not sure I’ve read that this was actually the end diagnosed cause of the issue reported as such...

88 mercruiser 4.3 low compression and water in oil.

Valves not sealing because of water ingress and a rusty surface to them, might be suspected, along with other things already mentioned like frost damage.

    Vapor lock

To be honest, from memory, the drain system here, drains into a manifold below. Not sure if what you are trying to attempt is the thing to do or not…but I wouldn’t think it should be affected, if you put it upflow of the manifold it drains into. First I’ve heard of this being a solution to...

2014 40 ELPT CT random warning beeps

IAC, temp and pressure sensors would be suspect first off. Hopefully you’ve already ruled out low oil level ? Another possibility is that if it’s like my 2016 merc…it may have a water separating fuel filter inside the boat in line from a fuel tank. Mine has a water sensor on it that alarms if it...

    Merc 80hp 4stroke restarting itself???

Only thing I’d add to this, if it’s relevant to this engine (will be if it’s younger than 2014/15) is that I found out recently that my key ignition is unlike any I’ve had on a boat before. Normally you’d turn the key and hold until it starts. On the latest mercury outboards like this (mine is a...

Constant alarm but motor running fine - 2004 5.7l raw water cooled Thunderbolt

Hi. Are you sure this is a thunder bolt carb ? Just thinking at a 2004 age…could be an efi with a older engine cover on it ? If it is an efi then you’re into other things like iac and a couple other sensors that could be to blame.

    Merc's 150 HP 2 Stroke EFI Motor.-

If it’s not alarming and beeping. It’s a fuel or electrical issue. See if you can borrow a VesselView mobile off someone. Plug it in. I’d check the voltage it’s putting out too. See if it’s spurious

Just a bit of a coincidence that your two low cylinders are next to each other.

    Yamaha 15 HP Motor.-

Got you. That will be a great engine. Haven’t changed a bit since the late 80’s. She’ll be fine. Only issue I’ve ever had with mine is salt deposits building up in the cooling passages, from previous owner not flushing after a season. Will run forever these things.
