    Inboard replacing

Scott. Funny you should say that. I did try it once on the old faithful laser 2. Just thought it was a horrible thing. It did allow the boat to plane quicker…but was always venting or on the verge of it right around the low 20’s speed I like to sit at. The most efficient speed for this boat to...

    Question about engine oil

Agree…but there is still the old thing about VP recommending 15w40 on occasion…for the very same engines that merc say 25w40 for. I guess.

    Inboard replacing

I’d thought about that Scott. But figured it wouldn’t be worth it. They’d be about the same power I’d think. Not sure. Figured the 6.2 would be a sure bet for getting the low down grunt I need, so I’m able to run a prop that can not only take advantage of the top end the boat clearly has, but...

    Question about engine oil

Unusually for me…I’ve only just taken my outboard boat out the water this week. I’d normally be taking all the boats out before November usually. With the exception being this outboard powered boat. Great to keep her in a little bit longer than the others. So perhaps in relevance to your...

    Wakeboard installation

Mr negative alert…I have a boat that came factory fitted with an option for a tower. But it’s not a fundamental wake board boat to start with. Despite a professional manufacturer fitting…I can tell you that it’s not a good thing. It caused slight stressing on the gel coat and was annoyingly...

    2001 yamaha t9.9

I’d have naturally though that was the charging outlet arrangement to trickle charge a battery

2001 mercury optimax 135 running hot

Check that impeller again, I’d say. Pain in the arse…but all too many times, it ends up being the case. Despite a recent change or check

    2005 Mercury 90hp 4 Stroke

Agree for sure. I’d also add that on the particular engine I have…mercury should be commended for actually encouraging self/owner servicing. One of their build and design scopes was to enable this. The quick connect oil drain and drip tray under the oil filter are just some of the lovely wee...

    2005 Mercury 90hp 4 Stroke

Agree. I have totally had my eyes opened. The boat I have with this merc 115 on it came almost exclusively with a yamaha 115 4 stroke on them. The inboard version of them came with mostly a 3.0 or rarely a 4.3. I know that the 115 Yammy original spec manages about 36/37 mph gps with a well...

    Inboard replacing

Lovely. Gets lovelier further up on the west coast again. it’s a 5.0 mpi I have Scott. 260 hp standard. With my cam and exhaust system…I’m assuming it’s nearly or around 300hp. But annoyingly…unless it’s anything over 4000 rpm or more…it’s just not a good set up all round having that cam...

    I’d say you’re right Scott.

That's right Chris. Worth a thought then. Appreciate the advice.

    Volvo penta spark plugs

It’s an mpi I have. Had a cam fitted as part of a performance package new. No idea which though. But the manual definitely states to use 993 or 5599 plugs for sure.

    Inboard replacing

I haven't yet been aware of anyone here that can re map the ecu on these. If that was an option, I would 100% do this to the engine I have now. It over fuels at low rpm and likely under fuels near the top...or not as good as it could be. One good thing about the set up is the very guttural...

1987 mercruiser 5.7 no power at coil

That will be the reason then. Cheers Chris. VP must have been a little behind merc in those days, I suppose
  16. Q

    Inboard replacing

Thought about it Chris...but the stubborn bit in me wants to stay mpi these days. no doubt the easy way is to do just as you say...many have told me likewise. but I just want to stick with mpi for the economy and smart craft function too. My own current mpi in the boat now is a great thing. She...

    2005 Mercury 90hp 4 Stroke

Hi Texas, It takes the better of me to say this, having always been a 2 stroke man (still am at heart, having a collection of small 2 strokes and the wonderful bomb proof old black max 2.0 150 v6 merc on the old classic cvx16), but the boat I use all the time these days, I bought for the...

1987 mercruiser 5.7 no power at coil

Hi. Although I’m not certain this is relevant to your merc 5.7…but I thought I’d ask around ballast resistors. I know of a late 80’s VP 5.7 that had an identical issue. It was caused by the ballast resistor failing. Can’t think I’ve noticed one on a merc 5.7 for some reason, thinking about it...

    Volvo penta spark plugs

If they work for you..that’s fair play. I found that even the platinum ac delco plugs didn’t work well for me. Noticeable difference in how she runs for sure. I’d also maybe add that stock plugs wouldn’t be what you have in yours. Stock would be considered as per the manual, being fussy perhaps...

I really want a 6.2 mpi for my boat. Just can’t find one over here. Hens teeth unfortunately.
