    have you put a timing light on the wire(s) while having the problem to verify that you're getting a consistent spark? if you are having a misfire, it's on multiple cylinders...

    You could also have a crack/hole in the pickup such that it won't draw when the fuel is below the level of the crack. Easiest would be to pull the sender and have a look.

    Still don't think you're getting it. You need to have tension on the prop and lower shift shaft AS YOU REASSEMBLE. Let's make it simple. Remove the whole drive, split it, and redo.
