Volvo Penta SX - water leak help

Only other thing you can try is If you can access the nuts that hold the inner & outer transom together and tighten them you MIGHT get lucky. Worth a shot! If not then you have a big job, but it beats buying another used boat

2016 Mercruiser 6.2 ECT - long beep every few minutes???

If you can access the main + stud on the fuse box, what’s the voltage there? Any drop between the bat switch & fuse box? How’s the fuse box negative to battery connection? I found a high resistance circuit in my old wiring harness by measuring both then running jumper wires to figure out which...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2 ECT - long beep every few minutes???

Wonder if there could be some oxidation on that fuse….might be solved by just removing and reinstalling… That boat was from Long Island & in our salt environment these issues are not uncommon. One year at spring start up I had no cranking power, no gauges with ignition on. The old school glass...

Looking to replace the points with an electric ignition

I thought I saw a black canister fuel filter in the video if that’s the case there would be no reason at all to have any additional filter. Ideally the only rubber fuel hose you have in these systems should be from the tank to the filter assembly, the filter to pump & pump to carb lines should...

Looking to replace the points with an electric ignition

That’s great now get rid of that in line fuel filter that does not belong in the bilge of a gas inboard. PS I drove cars that had points from 1972 till about 1980 and only had one breakdown from points (1965 VW Beetle) that was fixed at the side of the road with a screwdriver & feeler gauge…...

Best wrench to remove 5.0 water separator filter

If the wrench slips then, take a piece of coarse sand paper, fold it so the rough side is out on both sides then slip it between the strap n the filter, been doing that since the 70s….make sure to coat the rubber gasket well with oil and no more than hand tight…

yep, unless you have the tools and are familiar with setting up differentials and gearboxes, you're not rebuilding one of those. Its way beyond the skill set of most do it yourselfers.

1996 Volvo Penta 5.0FI SX Cobra temp gauge showing high temps

Well I have the same exhaust as the Volvo but on an OMC Cobra (only difference is the impeller is in the drive) and at idle the elbows are cool enough to keep your hand on (100* F), after coming off plane they will get up to 135* but will cool down after moving at idle for a few minutes. This is...

    Ideal tongue weight?

Well Four Winns sold my style boat on a trailer with a 3700 lb carrying capacity. The boat was “supposed” to weigh about 2700. My own measurements found it to be far more and, when I replaced the deck 15 years ago the original flotation foam wasn’t water logged either. On their current website...

    Ideal tongue weight?

I’d be surprised if the boat + trailer are only 4,000. Probably more like 4500. But won’t know till you get it weighed. Would be interesting to see…

    Distributor points cam

Auto shop 101 circa 1966 you used to put a dab of distributor cam lube on the cam. I still have a tube of it in my tool box from the early 70’s. You cal also use marine grease just a little bit. If that’s a Prestolite distributor pull off the rotor & see if there a a lubrication wick inside. If...
