    OMC Cobra I/O Tight shifting

Also use a tach/dwell meter hooked up to the ignition coil, those dash tachs arent that accurate mines off by about 150 rpm…. On these you can feel a difference even if the idle rpm is about 150 rpm too high…

Replacing Starter Motor on 1989 Four Winns 180 Horizon with 5.0 OMC Cobra Ford 302 Engine

Consider ARCO starters as well more expensive but very good.

DIY : How to dry a wet phone from boating .

I left my 6 in one of my central AC vents for a few hrs and the drying effect of AC dried it out without any heat just fine. It shut down because I had it in my pocket while doing a brake job in 100* weather last summer and just from perspiration!

Replacing Starter Motor on 1989 Four Winns 180 Horizon with 5.0 OMC Cobra Ford 302 Engine

I have an ‘88 H-200 and have done the starter a few times. I remove the rear seats & battery and I can get at it easily.

    Volvo Penta starter issues

There are other things to check as far as this issue goes….look at the drain for that exhaust manifold….is it right over the connections for the starter solenoid? Does it drip a bit of water? If so it will corrode those terminals & you will have intermittent no crank problems. The cure is use...

    1995 5.0L Carb Replacement Options

Just post a pic of your manifold; some were 2bbl only some were a 4 bbl with an adapter to fit a 2bbl carb. Remove the adapter & you can fit the 4bbl. I for one would always want a 4bbl in a marine inboard application. Just remember that any carb you get has to be a marine unit. They ARE...

    Omc 4.3 diagnosis

If your ESA is working but gets stuck on it will lower the idle speed to approx 450 rpm and the boat will barely move. Points do need to be checked every season, I just check dwell & timing & idle every season. I get approx 5-6 seasons out of a set of points.

1989 4.3 mechanical fuel pump replacement

PS interesting to note there is a Mercruiser version of this pump with that small filter and the OMC/Volvo version that had no filter as these had the larger canister filters.

1989 4.3 mechanical fuel pump replacement

I had the same issue had oil, not gas in that yellow hose. Replaced the pump anyway after 30 years because the rubber gaskets were looking really stiff & dried out. Replaced the tygon hose as well because the original was all stiff & hard to see thru.

Camshaft Replacement on Vortec 4.3L 262

I am going to look in my OMC shop manual to see if they list actual cam specs. One thing to keep in mind if you’re looking for a “truck” cam, look at what the primary application of the 4.3 was: Chevy S10 pick up & GMC equivalent Chevy Blazer & GMC & Olds equivalent Chevy/GMC Astro van Yes it...

Boat hit 200 degrees engine temp

Yep I always use OEM for mission critical parts like impellers & driveshaft bellows. This philosophy has worked well for me with 20 years of saltwater boating & no failures of either.

    Omc 4.3 diagnosis

Also make sure the ESA is not stuck on, that will make it run poorly as can a defective tachometer. I had a similar problem several years ago because the small buttons on the micro switches wore out (after 25 years!) and caused the ESA to stick on….

Boat hit 200 degrees engine temp

It could be that, these raw water cooled systems depend on a high volume of water in (impeller) and out (exhaust elbows and manifolds)….

    OMC Cobra I/O Tight shifting

Common Not a quick thing to fix, except make sure that your idle is no more than 600 rpm in gear in the water & that the ESA when triggered drops the idle down to 450 rpm. If that fixes it great if not you have some reading to do…. Do a search on my username I’ve sited how to get these shifting...

And salt water is not the devil people think It does NOT rot wood transoms like fresh water We never have low water levels And don’t have debris like logs etc like in other places….

Water line runs to backing plate drum brakes ?

You can use painted but here even on a land only trailer all I will use is galvanized. Because they come with better aluminum wheel cylinders and stainless springs.

    Mercruiser ECM replacement?

Ah well that’s better than the alternative Don’t need to pull valve covers just remove the oil cap and look inside run you finger carefully over the inside of the cover (cold engine) & see what you see

Water line runs to backing plate drum brakes ?

Those look like old drum brakes, painted backing plates…here the only thing that lasts is galvanized…. If they don’t work I’d just replace them with galvanized backing plates complete with wheel cylinders shoes & springs….in fresh water they’ll last a LONG time…
