    The 1962 28 HP came in 1 version for a 15" transom.----A 5" spacer could be installed to make it a long shaft for 20" transom.----Does your motor have the 5" spacer ?

    The 62 model 28 HP is a wonderful motor.-----Easy / cheap to maintain.----Some parts are easier to find than much newer motors.-----It has the universal magneto that was installed for about 40 years.---A dual ignition system.----Should top system fail it will run ( not fast ) on the bottom...

    Fuel pump doesn't pump

    The pressure pulse is bigger than the lower pressure ( some say vacuum ) pulse.----It is the PRESSURE pulse that drives the pump.---So much mis-understanding on such a simple device.----People just are not aware of how these pumps work.---That is why AMAZON sells so many of them.

    Pumps are operated by crankcase PRESSURE pulses.----Not so much by vacuum.

    Sorry mate.----There is spark on all 4 cylinders all the time.----The bottom 2 carburetors only supply a wee bit of fuel at below 1800 RPM.----But please explain to me how you can save fuel by stopping spark to 2 cylinders , on a 2 stroke like those 4 cylinder Mercury motors !!

    When flywheel is turning fast there should be spark on both cylinders.-----No such thing as a motor like that running on 1 cylinder at idle.

    Look at the front of the carburetor.-----Look near the top.----Use a small screw driver and adjust as needed.

    an examle of how folks today do not know how to look after a fine motor.-----if it starts and runs everything must be OK.-----Motors are ruined everyday by owners.

    Need to do some testing.-----Post results of a compression test.----And does spark jump a gap of 3/8" or more on both leads?-----You have installed a new water pump impeller I hope.

    Many folks fail to install a new water pump impeller every 5 years.-----Inspect the thermostat.-----Remove the 2 bypass covers.----Four screws each.----Look at pistons and rings.-----And post the results of a compression test

    Those 14 HP " special " models was a way of clearing / selling old part inventory.----Simple as that.

    Just one alarm buzzer.------Solid beep is over heat.-----Intermittent beeps can be for low oil in tank or no oil from VRO unit.----Run engine with 50:1 mix in fuel tank until you correct this issue.
