    There are but few folks today who can recognize the simplicity / easy to repair features of this motor.-----Parts are cheap and readily available.------And it is a 2 stroke running at 24:1 and many folks think a 2 stroke is a second class motor.-----Modern folks want a plastic disposable 4 stroke.

    Loosen sparkplugs with a wrench.----Remove by hand.-----Install sparkplugs by hand and snug up with a wrench.-----If you are removing / cleaning sparkplugs each trip , then repair / tune-up the motor !

    A motor that was built by Johnson / Evinrude.------Fact----Most shops will not work on older motors.----Therefor older motors have little value for the general public.----That is a simple , easy to maintain motor.----Consumable parts are easy to find.----These are often listed at $150 or less.

    Drained and inspected the gear oil ?-----Any water in the gearcase ?

    '00 Mercury 90hp, oil injection still works, time to replace it with premix or replace worn parts?

    On many of them the plastic gear is on the crankshaft.-----Near total teardown required to replace it.

    No----There are seals on the driveshaft and prop shaft.----And o-rings on housings.----Pressure test your gearcase to find leaks.-----Or just order a complete seal kit and install it.

    1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

    Post the actual size of the part that broke off.----Is it 0.200" X 0.200" ?------Then drill and tap the carburetor for a proper size screw.-------Drill a hole in the screw for the pin.------Screw can be bent and adjusted to line up the pin hole.-----Nothing to it !

    Backfiring is usually a sign of timing issues.----That is why I suggested an issue with the key.-----I can not see or touch your motor.----Good luck sorting it out.

    Many carburetor have a U-SHAPED bracket installed for the pin.-----An example of that is found on a 1967 model 9.5 HP Johnson / Evinrude.----That part is listed as NLA but easy to make / install in my opinion !
