    Happiest Day of Ownership !!!

little higher is better than too low, if needed you could aways fit air bags to the rear suspension of the truck.... Ted might want to pick up one of these.... Sherline tongue weight scale. You can get a dial that goes up to 5,000 lbs for these, I used it to weigh each side of my single axle...

    Happiest Day of Ownership !!!

This time when I painted the outdrive I upgraded to this but still there’s no way I’m laying under a boat scraping bottom paint. Worth paying 450-500 it costs!

OMC 4.3 Cobra slow Drip from hose

Also; Use a mirror & flashlight to check where that drip is coming from for sure…when the bearing starts to go on those circulating pumps the leak or make noise or both…easy to replace in on my 2nd replacement (salt water) must use a marine pump in raw water applications…

OMC 4.3 Cobra slow Drip from hose

You probably have rust n crud built up on the flange the hose fits onto. Common on raw water cooled engines with cast iron flanges. Remove the hose (may have to use hose removal picks) sand the flange smooth. I coat them with a bit of grease (marine grease or OMC triple guard which is probably...

Wonder if I should go IO again or go OB?

Ahh I don’t know it’s hard for me to wrap my head around OBs costing that much more than I/Os especially here in salt water. Most people here do not trailer their boats due to the traffic and roads, so the majority of pleasure boats are kept in marinas or on rotating moorings. In that...

port side exhaust elbow over heating.

You probably have either a clogged water passage in that elbow or low water flow to that side of the exhaust system. Start at the thermostat housing and see if flow to both sides is equal, if not then you have to remove the stat housing and clean it out, they do get clogged with rust, crud or...

    Omc cobra water leak

There are a couple of hoses back there that come in from the transom, they can be hard to see but it could be that....the 7.5 appears to have an engine oil cooler back there as well. Could be that or hope not, a core plug in the block...

    Purchasing in this market

I agree about paying that much for an 8 year old boat. Having said that last year a relative of mine bought a 2020 Chapparal 21SSI with the Merc 4.5 200 hp V6. Boat had basically no hours on it & the price was 38k. Wanted him to get an outboard instead due to our boating conditions but that’s...

Need help diagnosing temperature problem on Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-J

It’s not just that water will leak if that cap isn’t tight but the suction from the impeller will suck air in which contributes to overheating.

94 four winns horizon prop issues. Sounds like its coming apart

First do you have a shop manual and tools, and training to work on a stern drive? Its like a manual transmission or differential, if you're not a trained on how to take these apart, you may do more harm than good. Also there are 2 versions of the Cobra, one is the original OMC model, that is...

    1989 Renken 2000 I think I'm in trouble

I did a partial job like that, lol, once was enough. Never again, if I can’t afford a late model boat I’m sticking to hot rods then. No thanks!

    1989 Renken 2000 I think I'm in trouble

Start buying tyvec suits, gloves and one of these…. I use it when I paint the outdrive with anti fouling paint. I use the fume filters with the n95 inserts for painting & the large P100s for grinding & sanding ‘glass. This work is hazardous to your health do NOT scrimp on safety equipment!

Was running now will not turn over DISTRIBUTOR, TIMING, #1 on CAP & PLUG WIRE LOCATIONS

PS if someone put an automotive GM Delco distributor on that engine I'd be checking the starter and alternator as well. No J1171 label then get rid of them. You can see it on this ARCO starter I installed 2 years ago.

What you shoudl have is a Prestolite points distributor and it should look like this, the centrifugal advance is below the points plate. If it is electronic (Prestolite BID system) it will look the same except no points & condenser but will have an electronic module in the same spot.

    1997 Merc 4.3 V6 LXGen+

You need a crowfoot wrench to get at it, I still have one I bought back in the '70s, it's in 2 pieces, one side is for Chevrolet and the other side is for Ford. The hold down bolt is right behind the carb between the carb and the distributor on the left side as you face it from the front. Keep...

Nope. Is the whole distributor moving or just the cap? The cap is screwed into the distributor and the distributor is clamped to the intake manifold.
