Was running now will not turn over DISTRIBUTOR, TIMING, #1 on CAP & PLUG WIRE LOCATIONS

You need to have the engine at TDC of the compression stroke for # 1 cyl which means that both valves on # 1 cyl are closed and the piston is all the way up to the top of the cyl. You may be 180* off with it on the exhaust stroke. In this case the exhaust valve will be open but the intake will...

Mercruiser 140 Points to Delco EST results in low RPM at WOT

I was thinking about this very same issue, on my old 4.3 V6 the Prestolite points distributor that was standard then had only 12* of advance at 3200 rpm, plus the 6* of base timing, for a total of 18*. One reason why I hadn't upgraded to the Delco was that I wasn't sure what the advance curve...

volvo penta 5.0 Ford engine knocking.

A Ford 302 (5 liter) is the engine you need but make sure to check the firing order on the intake manifold because I recall there were some differences from the auto versions vs the marine versions. These engines came in Mustangs, Full Size Fords & Mercuries, even Lincoln Town cars up untill the...

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

There is a little clip for the needle valve make sure it’s just clipped on the float arm not in one of the holes in the float arm. If it’s put in one of the holes it can cause the needle to stick & cause flooding. Also a good source of QJet information is Cliffs High Performance Quadrajets...

    Still no power

check an often missed cause: corroded or clogged up anti siphon valve on the fuel tank. Follow the fuel line from the filter/pump back to the tank, where the line attaches to the tank, that barbed fitting is the anti siphon valve. My boat had this problem about 20 years ago.

Need help diagnosing temperature problem on Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-J

I've heard that before, I guess anyone who owns a Volvo with the flush port should check that first.

    Water in Engine

The manifolds can be inspected by propping them up level & filling with Acetone (careful very flammable) it will leak through cracks that water might not.

Bravo 3 Oil Leak - Oh No !!!

I would always pull the drive each season in salt water. Buying a good drive jack was SO worth the money for the fall/spring R&R. I recall reading somewhere that newer Volvo drives had some type of water sensor in the bellows, I wonder how well this works? If it did work well it could be a...

Bravo 3 Oil Leak - Oh No !!!

Are these the o rings for the transom mount joint or the on the driveshaft? I use a bit of OMC triple guard grease to hold that irregularity shaped o ring on the Cobra in place on the transom mount (same thing as a Volvo SX) when re-installing the drive.

Bravo 3 Oil Leak - Oh No !!!

Only risks there is if the bellows developed a leak during the season and that salt water laid in there all winter; rusting the gimble bearing and possibly making the drives very difficult to remove…

Rough to start, barely idles, runs great above 2000 RPM's

If you have to push it to 2000 rpm it get it to keep running the idle system isn’t doing much it’s the off idle and perhaps main system that’s supplying the air fuel mix. It’s it possible the auto-enrichment system is not turning off after starting and flooding the engine? I’ve never seen or...

Rough to start, barely idles, runs great above 2000 RPM's

That is simply an old Rochester 2GV with an electrical cold start enrichment system instead of a traditional automatic choke. They are simple to rebuild, much simpler than the 4 bbl carbs.

    Battery Leads hooked up backwards

I know it doesn't help you now, but in the future you might consider what I have been doing...take a piece of duct tape, stick it by the positive terminal on the top of the battery & use a sharpie to make a big + sign on it. Makes it easy to avoid that mistake! That or take a piece of red...

Rough to start, barely idles, runs great above 2000 RPM's

Agreed you are forcing it to use the off idle and main system to keep it running so your idle jets/air bleeds are likely clogged.

    Getting Water Out of Cylinders

I don't know about running it without the manifold, I've seen this done on an engine stand but never with the engine in the boat. Will put out a lot of CO gas so that's a hazard. Just keep fogging the heck out of it. When my head gaskets blew I had water in #2 and a mist of water in #1. Salt...

Power steering , worse when running

If the pump is good you may need to replace the actuator. I had to change mine last year. Made a big difference it steers with one finger now.

    Quit My Job . . .

Now with the pension & social security my income is the same as when I was working, and since I still work part time I’m making more overall than when I worked full time. I keep up the part time work because I still like it. Just had to get out of the over-regulated “system” I worked in for 30+...
