What is this ratcheting pulley and tackle.

Mains sheet stay for the traveler is another term.

Can anyone help me identify this boat?

Unlike cars, boats don't just grab the extra horse power and go faster. The fluid influence of water changes how horse power effect things. Hulls are designed for speed ranges, not necessarily meaning you can't overpower them. Instead adding power can have anywhere between little effect at...

Buying a boat with a rebuilt sterndrive??

Stringers are the "bones" of the boat. Under the deck, they give the hull it's rigidity. Dunno' if Larson was using wood in the stringers in 2003, but you can't really tell from lookin'. If you're standing on a surface similar to the hull of the boat, then the deck is probably fiberglass...

    "Geared" Boom

I'm outside any real experience, but is there a pin in the gooseneck that can be removed easily to allow it to roll counter clockwise? The boom systems like that were born in the 1960s. All by hand, no cranks for those I believe. I think the older sets were designed so you could easily unfurl...

Can anyone help me identify this boat?

More than. Might want to do a little research before you go that powerful with it. That boat wasn't designed for quite that much power. Not sure exactly how the hull would react to it. Dunno' that I would go all the way back to 120, but maybe meet it somewhere in between.

    "Geared" Boom

Could that be a furler for the main sail? I've never had one, so I'm not sure how they unlock, but they've always looked kinda' handy. Welcome aboard.

Back when I was a kid, we got to tour Ford Glass House, Rouge Steel (now AK Steel, I think), and the Dearborn Assembly Plant. I think they assemble trucks there now, but when I went it was the Mustang and Capri lines. I was pretty jaw dropped the whole tour.

Can anyone help me identify this boat?

Missed this back in 2019. Did you figure out the model? Looks like it might be the Monterey. I'm not expert on 'em, but I'm a fan of the Catalina. Ray Loewy did the design for that boat, and I'm a fan of his industrial design.

    Residual Heat during this "lockdown"

Our low will 28º a little later tonight ... then back into the 40s tomorrow ... I'm getting cold just reading your posts!

    Getting started in northern Washington.

I did a look at two marinas near Olympia on the sound using the satellite image on Google Maps. Might be worth while to 1) go walk through a couple and see what most people are running out there, and 2) rent one or two and give 'em a try. See what you learn from using them and motoring around...

    Co-Ownership Question . . .

I sort of co-own several smaller boats up at our cottage in Michigan. None of that is a big deal. The most expensive of them is replaceable for $1,500. Big boat like yours I'd be hesitant. Mainly because if my family and I were fighting of $1,500 ... someone could wind up sucking it up and...

    Getting started in northern Washington.

Welcome aboard: I can't quite speak to the sound itself, never been close to it. But some of the bigger impounds I boat on get pretty rough. I did a Google Map look at a couple of the marinas in the area and there are a few boats under 18' ... but not many. If you knew the water, and...

    Southwind Boat Parts Florida

Quick look on the internet says that Southwind was owned by the same company that is now Sailfish boats. You might be able to contact them for some details. My guess on the bimini is they probably had someone make them for the boats and then rig them (if it wasn't done by the dealer). Rear...

Bayliner or Starcraft? V-6 or V-8? Is 20' Too Large To Launch In Fresh Water River (Willamette)

Welcome aboard Recommend you do some reading here: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/for-new-members-needing-help-buying-a-boat-a-buyers-checklist.612841/ Condition is the key to any used boat. I agree that an 80s Bayliner has a bad reputation, but you also want to be sure of the Starcraft...

What to do about this boat?

Fortunately, if he has the title then you didn't buy a boat. He has no grounds for the additional $5k. Unfortunately, unless you have a piece of paper signed by both parties stating the $2k is a deposit, you do have a legal fight unless the dude just gives in, and gives it back. I'd agree...

    Prop boat to jet boat?

I've seen several of them towing on our lakes down here. They seem to have more wake boards and surfers behind 'em, so if water skiing is the goal make sure you see how big a wake they tend to throw. But from all indications, they'll tow for watersports.

    Rookie move

The point the guys are hinting at is that since you didn't put up any photos, no one can make an educated guess, or see anything indicated to help you out. We don't know enough (including the type of boat) to help you out much. But if you post some photos, we can eyeball it and see if anything...
