    There should be an o-ring that goes into the groove just below the spline.----Very important to keep water out of the joint.

    You are pushing key in and holding it in while cranking it over?------Step #1 is to post compression test results for this issue.-----Sounds like low compression in the CRANKCASE might be a issue.

    Step #1 is a compression test.----No point throwing beer tokens ($$$ ) at a worn out motor.----Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more.----Check the flywheel key.----A sheared key means no spark condition.-----Test driver coil.----Clean breaker points and recheck for spark.

    Picking up a 4 stroke 2004 model 150 HP Yamaha.----Water getting into engine oil.----Owner opted for a new motor.----Getting a 100 HP Yamaha for next to nothing.----Severe corrosion in head gasket area.----Big shops simple do not want to rebuild these exotic ( many , many parts ) motors.

    Check the integrity of transom and stringers.---No point putting a new floor over rotten stringers.-----Find a owners manual for this motor.----Read it 2 times before your first launch of the boat.
