    Merc/GM 4.3 tops out at 4000 rpm

By the same he means are you running the same prop on the new engine vs the old engine? Have you always been at 6000 ft altitude? Did you rejet the carb for that altitude? Compression is good place to start, and what do the plugs look like when you pull them And did you get a marine reman...

AD has some good thoughts measure the race with calipers, alternatively if you have access to a machine shop have them measure the housing might clean up easily

    3.0 Mercruiser Choking

By not being sure of the float bracket adjustment I take that to mean the float level is not set correctly? Yes if float level is off this could cause what you are observing. Also would look did you install any check balls in the accelerator pump circuit correctly? If you disconnect the...

Worth flame arrestor upgrade for Mercruiser engines?

They can run rich if it is severely clogged as it can act as a choke, but nothing a little gas , scrubbing , and blowing out with compressed air cant fix Isn't that all gonna hold together when you put it on the carb and screw it down?

Rebuild of a 3.7 180hp mercruiser have questions

Buy new lifters you can reuse the pushrods and rockers of they look ok. You will likely need a speedi sleeve for where seal wears the camshaft snout If the head or block needs decking you will have to change the pushrod length to correct the valvetrain geometry. How far are you into this...

Making sure I purchased the correct coil for a 1996 5.7L

if your timing spec is 8 it should be at 8 in base mode not 0. It is usually on the flam arrestor and also in the shop manual. When you come out of base mode you will see the ignition module advance it some as the TBV is an active system where it is changing the advance based on engine conditions

    Cracked 5.7 engine

Real repair is to replace the engine. But If you are lucky enough that it doesn't get into your oil after a couple of good hard uses , JB weld the crack and it is what is ... There is something called lock and stitch to repair cracks but would think it wouldn't be worth it in this...

    1997 Merc 4.3 V6 LXGen+

Would second this. Marine engines under load have a much higher detonation potential than automotive applications, detonation that can eat your engine for lunch in a short time. Would suggest getting a timing light and setting it properly and verifying total advance
