YAMAHA 200HP 1998 OVER CHERGING LOCATION OF RECTIFER?

Ah. Fair play. Sounds like it’s a genuine over voltage then. Got you. So you must have a combined regulator/rectifier type on your engine. Sounds like you know what you have to do then.

    Need to identify my shifter

Looks like this OMC type perhaps

    Need to identify my shifter

Doesn’t look like a mercruiser normal type. Might be OMC ? Is the mercruiser original to the boat ? Most types will fit ok though, to be honest.

YAMAHA 200HP 1998 OVER CHERGING LOCATION OF RECTIFER?

Might be wrong, but I’m not sure a faulty rectifier would produce more volts as a failing. Sorry to ask, but have you verified this using a meter on the actual battery ? Or are you going by the readout on the dash ?

    XR4 Blackmax 150 - can't find a prop to fit

Just had a look. Yeah. Looks like it’s a 4 1/4 gearcase on that.

1988 Merc 200 HP Smoking during warmup.

I’d be more worried if it didn’t. Just about the advice of switching to a synthetic oil. I’d be very very careful there. Some or even most synthetic type 2 stroke oil isn’t TCW3 rated, like what you need for that engine. As far as I know...most Di 2 stroke oil is synthetic and not tcw3. So to...

    XR4 Blackmax 150 - can't find a prop to fit

You’d imagine that the usual merc props for gearcase generally up to the 125hp size, might be the right fit ? Or am I being silly ?

    Looking To Buy a Boat

I’d look for a good Shetland family 4 with a healthy outboard on it perhaps. Tried and tested wee things for such use. Or a Hardy 18 with a good outboard. Or if you don’t need shelter or a cabin...there isn’t a better boat than a good fletcher for rough waters like this. Prices high just now, as...

Considering upgrading this season - prop exchange programs

Totally agree with the above. It’s a total unknown until you try one. The good thing is the enertia comes in 1” increments. The enertia will usually drop a little rpm over a laser 2 or smaller diameter prop like that, being quite aggressive. But if you have a hull and power that can lift from...

    Looking To Buy a Boat

Hi there what’s the budget. Do you mean actual sailing or motoring ? You’ll need something fairly Hardy to do it safely around there. As you’ll know.

Considering upgrading this season - prop exchange programs

So just So just put in some details for the Chase. I was aware of the following for wot for sure. But never put in the cruise details to see. As follows; Wot prop slip 5150 rpm 1.47 ratio 21” prop Gps speed 67 (has done 67.7 a few times but stick to 67 for now) Prop slip 4% cruise prop slip...

Considering upgrading this season - prop exchange programs

Could do. Haven’t ever thought to look at what my prop slip is at cruise...but I’d imagine it won’t be much better than 16%. I can get down to around 3/4% at absolute best on the quick boat and about 7 on the cuddy...but at WOT and perfect conditions. I’ll look and see what it is at cruise now...

Considering upgrading this season - prop exchange programs

Keen to hear what your numbers are full throttle and what boat and engine combo you have. What pitch etc now. The vengeance can certainly be improved on for sure, as you say. I can’t think of an occasion when the vengeance has actually performed better than the standard ally black max the same...

Considering upgrading this season - prop exchange programs

Prop slip like that at cruise is probably really good, to be honest. What is it at full throttle ?

    Fletcher Bravo Arrowsport 150 restoration...

Look for the fletcher owners on Facebook book. That’s the most current large group. The windscreen can be done by many people. Nearest me. Is QD plastics. Many on the owners group have done this very thing. Also lots if documented strip downs.

Too much can be absolutely disastrous. No doubt about that.

Charging voltage drop with diode isolator

Yeah. That’s what I was getting at in my earlier post. It likely was a split charge diode relay.

2 Stroke Yam 8B of Unknown Year.-

Can’t be that bad searider. There are still so many about from the 70’s. Can’t think of another small 2 cylinder 2 stroke of that size, that’s stood there rear of time like these have.

2 Stroke Yam 8B of Unknown Year.-

They have a tiny charging circuit on them sometimes. it would be very unusual for these to lose compression, unless it’s been seriously abused. I would stick some 2 stroke down the bores and leave it over night. Then turn it over a few times. Repeat as ness. Might find the compression comes up...

2 Stroke Yam 8B of Unknown Year.-

That’s the old faithful Yamaha 8 from around late 70’s to early/mid 80’s. Still loads going strong.
