    Hydrofoil or Trim Tabs??

You’ll lose top end if you’re over propped for sure. Most engines these days make their peak power near or at the top of the rpm range. So often dropping in pitch to allow the engine to make its power well, will see a gain in top end. Not to mention that most props these days...the faster they...

    Mercruiser spark plug replacement question?

I didn’t notice too much of a crazy performance increase, apart from a couple of extra rpm at the top. So a little... But most noticeable was the running a lot smoother and lasting longer for certain

Totally agree...I was just suggesting what might have happened to the guy who originally asked the question 😂

    QSD 4.2 + bravo = toast?

Be amazed if that engine could wreck a bravo 3, without serious abuse or lack of maintenance. The cone clutch would surely go before anything else got wrecked, I’d imagine

    Mercruiser spark plug replacement question?

The 5599 are what you’re after. Don’t need changed for years. My mpi didn’t perform well with the AC plugs you mention. They are platinum things I’m sure.

    Mariner 2HP Gas Tank

Quite common for the wee seal on the vent to be past its best on them over the years. When I say leaking from the carb, I probably should have added that I meant when the engine is stored or lying on its side, it happens if fuel not turned off or left over fuel out the carb.

    Mariner 2HP Gas Tank

Fair play. Just never been aware of it on these old Yamaha engines. Still so many of them about from the 70’s and early 80’s like this. Just thought I’d ask if it was the usual issue of leaking from the vent or carb.

Mercruiser coil 2006 MCM 5.0 MPI

Is this to replace a faulty one ? As far as I know...it is what it is, on this engine. Not sure if anyone would make another one for it, other than the same.

    Mariner 2HP Gas Tank

Haven’t heard of this happening before to be honest. move heard of the tanks leaking from the vent on the full cap though. Very very common. Also common to leak fuel from carb, should fuel valve be left on. has the plastic tank be actually ruptured or punctured ? If it has...and it helps you...

It might have one down near the starter motor. But you might have a 97 block with a 2000’s and something ignition and injection system

    Red engine motor year mystery

To be honest, I’m a little reluctant to advise you for sure, until you know exactly what engine you’ve got. But I do know that most, if not all Mpi versions of this engine call for AC delco “41-101, replaces AC 41-993” or the NGK equivalent. I use the latter. but find out what you have first maybe.

I’d suggest if it has the flat hvs Diz cap...you shouldn’t be able to gap the plugs..should be platinum at least, but iridium more suitably

3 blade stainless vs four blade aluminum

Sounds nice texasmark. Yeah...at its best, it’s around 4%. When it’s up on the pad and aired out, it does very well to be fair. Heavy heavy boat for 18ft, but once she’s going...can’t think of many or any quicker 18ft boats...that have a windscreen, fancy seats and cupholders, haha. Special wee...

    Red engine motor year mystery

Here is my theory on it. Originally it was a black 1997 VP GL carb or GLi tbi engine. Something happened to that, then someone has made it a hybrid, perhaps using the black block from the GL(I) and top end and running gear and ecu etc from a red Gi Mpi. Likely about 280hp if it’s GLi spec.

    Fletcher Bravo Arrowsport 150 restoration...

Hi. can’t believe I missed your original post. This is the classic arrowsport 150. I had a 1979 inboard model. This will be around 83-85’ As you’ll know by now. The real Achilles heel in the wonderful fletcher boats, is the transom. There is a huge owners club here in the U.K. I currently have...
