980 hours on engines - compression test

Thanks, everyone for the additional comments. I think I would pull the heads for a top-end rebuild, but only do the bottom-end if there appeared to be excessive wear. Probably won't start this until next year. I still have an extended swim platform (ESP) to add to the boat. At the same time...

980 hours on engines - compression test

Thanks, AD :thumb: After my previous post, I did the math and realized that a 0.030 over bore is not going change things much . . . I guess you need to stroke the engines to really increase Cubic Inches . . . :) I found a web site that does the calculations for the over bore . . . Standard...

980 hours on engines - compression test

Scott, Here is the history of compression tests, including the one done during the pre-purchase survey. . . The second one done in 2014 ( '2014C' ) was done same year after a decarb process. IIRC, I used water for the decarb in 2014.

980 hours on engines - compression test

I have 980 hours on my twin Mercruiser 7.4 LX MPI engines. They are going to lap 1,000 next season, as I average 40 hours per year, since buying the boat in 2012. . . 2013 being our first season with it on the water. I have not done a compression test in a couple of years, so I wanted to do...

    Custom Fiberglass Extended Swim Platform

Progress Update: I got the foam 'plug' roughed out. I used 2" thick EPS sheets, glued together with PL adhesive. Next steps are to . . . Fill a few voids Fillet inside corners Sand to shape Coat with epoxy Apply non-skid material - still trying to figure out the best (and economical)...

    Custom Fiberglass Extended Swim Platform

I have been doing some searching for non-skid patterns for mold makers. I came across a company . . . Gibco (gibcoflexmold.com) that seems to have the patterns that many boat companies use for their non-skid. They happen to list this pattern for Formula and Fountain boats. It comes in both...

    Custom Fiberglass Extended Swim Platform

Thanks WoG :) That was the link I had been looking for and could not seem to find. I went out to the boat (on its mooring) and made a bunch of measurements. I figured the platform was going to be about 8 feet wide. Measured out at about 95" to fit on top of the existing platform. Here are the...

    Custom Fiberglass Extended Swim Platform

It looks like our next boat is still a few years away, so I am thinking about doing some enhancements to the current barge, a Formula 330 Sun Sport. I always wanted an extended swim platform to get the people out beyond the outdrives, as they present a mild hazard when doing the sandbar thing...

1994 Four Winns Freedom 170 leaking from outdrive

Transom assembly . . . Looks 'interesting' in that the leak is coming through a hole in the assembly, just below one of the mounting studs. Some possibilities are: 1) Leaking outer seal on the transom assembly 2) Rotting transom You could drill a couple of small (1/4") test holes into the...

Mercruiser 7.4LX MPI Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Thanks AD. I got it sorted out. There were 2 set screws. I was able to get the TP down to 1.2% with the set screw and then I was able to loosen the sensor, tweak it and re-tighten it to take out the rest. 0% 0.55Volts Here is the Diacom readout . . . I then buttoned everything up and took...

According to my Mercruiser P/N searching, the TPS looks like this . . . I did not see any like images in the links, but maybe I need to look deeper into those web sites. I did see the eBay links. :thumb:

Mercruiser 7.4LX MPI Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

I got a TPS error code ( I think it was code 24) on my starboard engine (as I mentioned in my ECT Thread). I also got a MAP error code (I think it was code 33) I didn't write the codes down before I cleared them. Anyway, I am seeing occasional high idle and surging from the starboard engine...
