    Custom Fiberglass Extended Swim Platform

Weekend update . . . While the gelcoat touch-up areas are curing, I mapped out and cut the foam core strips for the platform. . The core is going to be a series of beveled urethane foam strips. Each piece is numbered as to where is goes in the platform. . . . There will be fiberglass cloth...

SUCCESS !!! :D I tried drilling a hole from the underside of the plug just into the fiberglass and see if I could get some compressed air in there (60 psi) No luck. I managed to get the forward edge up far enough that I could put a long piece of hardwood in to the step-down area and used...

Pulling the Mold from the Plug . . . This weekend my plan is to pull the mold off of the plug and take care of any imperfections, getting it ready for the platform infusion next weekend. Saturday mid-day update: The mold is putting up a fight  I have got the forward portion of the...

FIXED - Messages page is messed up . . .

When you go to the 'Your Messages' page from the drop=down under your avatar, the resulting page is not formatted correctly and shows a sliver of the message detail with no ability to scroll. I noticed this happened about 6:30 ish this morning and still persists.

I may have found my 'next' boat . . .

I took the family to the Palm Beach Boat Show yesterday, just to have something to do. We walked through the show, some of the boats were on land, but many were in the water. Saw the usual suspects and a few new ones. I made sure to stop by the Formula 'booth' they had a couple PC's and some...

In other news . . . I took the 'old' pump apart again and managed to get it working. It pulls about 29 inHg, which is fine.

Quick Update . . . I pulled the plastic off of the mold and touched up the dry patches. . . Now, as it continues to cure, I can figure out some stiffeners and bracing. BTW - I tested the pump and it can pull 30 inHg of vacuum. So there must have been a small leak in the bag.

Mid-morning update . . . it has been about 2 hours since I began the infusion and the resin is starting to kick . . It looks like I got about 99% coverage as a few of the dry spots have filled in a bit more. With the resin now starting to kick, I think I'll be left with a few places to touch...

1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

Just checking in on your thoughts for a swim platform design. Based on the plywood that you cut out, I assume that you are thinking about something like this . . . In terms of structural support, if you figure 1,000 lbs at the end of the platform as a worst case, then your force calc's will...

Making some progress . . . I have the glass and infusion materials laid out as well as the vacuum bag in place. I had to make a complete bag to fully seal things. I have run a vacuum test and made sure the runners are lined up where they should go. The little HF pump takes a while to pull...

Here is a picture that I found on the web for the QuickUSA rode splice . . . Not sure what the pull rating is on the rode, but I assume that is the crimp that the arrow points to . . . Lowlysubaruguy I assume you tried the rode with a regular rope/chain splice. Just wondering why you would...

$100 later, Back in business, hopefully . . . The other pump had the rotary vanes stuck from ingesting resin. I got one of the vanes freed up , but the other one is still stuck. The original pump may be fixable, but probably won't be 100%. So, this new one will have to do.

Quick update regarding the test 'part' . . . The test part had cured enough that I could turn off the vacuum and pull the part out of the bagging. It looks like the outer 3" or so did not get a full saturation, so something to keep in mind for the main mold. The piece is only about 0.055"...

Update - Feb 23, 2019 . . . A big day doing some tests and working on the hatch molds. Hatch Plug/Mold . . I decided that the hatch plug was a bit too damaged to fix up this weekend. Sooo, I put some more time into re-working the mold from the damaged plug. Pictures to follow tomorrow :)...
