You need to remove both shafts. When removing keep track of the shims and make sure they go back in the same way and number

The timing covers are being made with the capability, instead of make 2 types. Just needs a plug

When the pistons get pushed back into their bores, the brake fluid is pushed back into the master cylinder. There could be more then the master can hold, it needs to go somewhere. Might spill out of can use something to suck excess out
Have not taken one of that style apart but have rebuilt other style. If you have a press you should be able to replace the bearings
