Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

So, sorry for so many text posts with no pictures . . . Here are a few pictures :) The spark plugs . . . these actually looked OK versus what they looked like a few weeks ago. . . They look a lot better (I think) Here are a few shot of the inspection camera looking at the valves . . ...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

Success !!! :D Definitely the forces of friction were over ruling the force of gravity throughout this process. The straps and the rollers just did not want to move, due to the amount of weight on them. I was able to hoist the rail up high enough to get a boat stand under the stern...

As the boat continues to turn . . . Almost there, but it sure is reluctant to turn. I think I will need chain hoists positioned over the rails for the return trip. Pulling from the center line of the boat is not all that effective in the later stages of lifting,. If I had a couple...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

One thing about the fuel rail and injector system on my Mercruisers that I cannot quite understand is how a single rail system on a V8 engine goes together or comes apart :noidea: I can see how a 2 rail system on a V8 connects to the injectors on each side of the engine, since they all line up...

Bravo 3 outer prop is gone along with the shaft. How can this happen?

Just for further understanding, and using AD's picture . . . The two arrows point to the bearing and the shaft flange that hold the inner shaft within the outer shaft. For the inner shaft (outer prop) to come out intact, the flange would have to be worn away.

Looks like the MEFI manual covers the next generation of fuel system. My engine has a single fuel rail with the regulator underneath the rail at the front of the engine. The MEFI does have a lot more detail than the Merc Manual #16. I am wondering if Pleasurecraft has an earlier version of the...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

Me again  . . . Also found some stuff that gives a scientific explanation (via an engine lab testing) to the effects of ignition timing and the peak pressure built up within the cylinder as well as the exhaust gas temperature that exists the cylinder. So, if the ignition timing...

New 'Classic' Boat in the Neighborhood . . .

Heading off to work this AM and i notice this boat in the neighbor's driveway. :) Looks to be a late 1950's - early 1960's vintage. Scott 40 HP Engine too :) Cool 'fins' on the stern :) Flat bottom . . . Anyone have an idea what this boat (brand) is?

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

As the Boat Turns . . . Well a couple pictures are probably worth more words than I can write . . . I have got the boat rolled over to well beyond the balance point and it is still reluctant to 'roll'. I tried a variation of Scott's idea (not shown in these pictures), which is to...

It continues to lean, but not roll  I brought some blocks home to prop up the boat stands a bit higher and see if I can get the boat to finally roll over. It is still putting up a fight, so I may have to apply some force elsewhere. At this point, the boat stands have done all that I...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

Chris - I ran the engines and recorded some data Not sure if I can send them in a PM or if I will have to send a regular email. I'll try a PM first. Nothing earth shattering, but the 2 engines generally have the same stats for MAP, Injector pulse, etc. They both say "Lean" on the fuel Mixture...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

I've been working from home today, as I needed to sign for my package delivery (as per my other thread about the Mercruisers), so every couple of hours I go out to the garage and spend a few minutes trying to 'flip' the boat. I have got the thing slightly past vertical, but it is still putting...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

I got a package today :) :) :) Got to load it up to my laptop and get ready to test it out. It came with the special cable for Windows 10, which is extra long and I have a USB extender cable. My hopes are that I can have the laptop reach the helm so I can 'record' some of the stats while...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

Idea Du Jour . . . OK, morning cup of coffee underway and I have an idea on how to control any wild reaction that may occur as the boat goes past vertical. I currently have a strap that attaches to the port side winch and leads underneath the boat up to the starboard side to do the lifting as...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

Quick update: I was able to get the stern strap back on the roller and re-configured. I brought the boat up to nearly vertical and it is definitely bottomed out on the grage floor. As I go past vertical, I'm sure the boat will raise up again, but my concern is it having a somewhat wild reaction...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

AD - good observation . . . not sure which way you meant for the rotation, but . . . the stern strap eventually walked off of the roller. I tried to save it, but to no avail. The good news is that the stern dropped down when the strap went off of the roller and is partially resting on the keel...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

I cleaned the garage up a bit so that I have clear space under the boat. Also put the keel back in the dolly so I can move it around . . . still needs antifouling paint. I spent much of the morning going to HD and HF to get some 'stuff' . . . My plan is to build a sling that can rotate...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

UPDATE: It has been a while since I have worked on the sailboat . . . I was supposed to play in a golf tournament today (Wednesday) but the foursome got cancelled, so I have a 'free' day and thought that I would get back to the restoration work on the sailboat. After the winter of trying to...

Here are a couple pictures of the plugs. I did not take them all out, since it was pretty obvious once I removed a few. I also removed one of the starboard engine plugs just for comparison Here is the #1 Port versus the #2 starboard (both outboard plugs . . . easy to reach :) The starboard...

Can I leave my boat in shallow water through low tide?

Should be fine as Chris has described . . . Here is my unplanned attempt at doing that sort of thing :)
