Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

AD - I found some better diagrams and put the temps on them. Hopefully, these will be more clear. All ideas welcome . . . First the starboard engine: . . . Here is the Port Engine: It seems like the source of the temperature rise is in the engine block/heads as the temp rise through the...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

Here are my numbers from last week with a bit more annotation. I *think* the problem is where I circled in Red . . . :noidea: It looks like both H.E.'s are taking a lot of heat out of the coolant, bringing the coolant down to the same temperature as the exiting sea water, so it could not take...

    Bilge pump wiring question

It sounds like you can use the wiring that is already in place. Here is a picture that I Googled of what you probably have. . . If you are just replacing the pump, then you will just be connecting to the existing wiring at the pump.

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

Morning Update: Another cloudy day, so I'll have some more time to work on the engines. Chris - I have some clamps that may be useful in restricting the flow of sea water through the system. I could also use the clamps to restrict the coolant side to see which better correlates to the temps...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

UPDATE: I worked on the boat for the morning, checked the temperatures after warmup and did a few things. Then I took the boat out this afternoon, as the seas were flat. I took a bunch of temperature readings and the port engine is definitely running about 20 degrees hotter than the starboard...

2013 Chaparral 206 SSI Fuel Gauge not working

Actually, the picture that you posted is the inner workings of the sender. If you take the entire sender out, it should look something like this . . . And you would slide the dark colored cylinder (which is the float) up and down the tube to change the resistance. I put a similar sensor...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

A Quick update and some photos ('cuz folks like photos, right ?) I removed the heavy scaling chunks and then put liberal amounts of 'Kaboom' down through the HE. Digging a bit deeper into the cooling system, I took the thermostat housing off to replace the thermostat. I also checked...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

Here are some pics I took of the work on the heat exchanger . . . draining the AF down and removing the heat exhanger was not to difficult Here are the endcaps removed. I flushed both sides of the exchanger, but there really was not anything in there.

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

I am on the 4th year of my (2) closed cooling systems on my twin Merc 7.4 LX MPI engines. They are the FULL version of closed cooling, so they do the block and the manifolds. I added them to 16 year old 740 hour 'fresh water only' engines when I bought the boat up over at Lake Winnipesaukee in...

    Trailer Refurbishment . . .

UPDATE: I have not done much with the trailer lately, as the 'big' boat has been getting all of the attention in preparation for the season. I did manage to mount new tires on the rims this weekend. :thumb: I had not tried to replace a tire on a rim ever before, and figured that I will give...

Mercury 7.5 HP Steering Swivel Repair

Just giving this thread a bump . . . and an update. As per the picture below, I took off the lower cowling skirt to reveal more of the steering assembly. It looks like the engine has to be substantially dis-assembled as there is the shift shaft that runs through the pivot tube (which looks to...

Boats going on a mooring for a week, questions

It sort of depends if it is your mooring or one that is provided . . . and what the mooring has. Most folks use the bow cleats rather than the bow eye to tie to the mooring pendant, but either way is fine, just matter of what is going to be easier. If you have to provide your own pendant...

Mercury 7.5 HP Steering Swivel Repair

The steering swivel on my 1969 Mercury 7.5 HP outboard has been stiff for quite a few years. I have done the greasing thing . . . heated up the area to try to loosen the grease up and get it to flow, etc. but it still stiffens back up after a short while. This year the steering won't even move...

    New Anchor and Bow Roller

Finally . . . The new anchor swivel put up a fight the whole way, but it is finally installed. To my liking, I did not have to use any shackles. . . . just a few tweaks and a bigger hammer. Here is the swivel installed to the chain and the anchor . . . The swivel turns freely and...

    New Anchor and Bow Roller

Better news . . . I managed to free up the anchor swivel by going at it with the breaker bar a bit more. Then I worked some grease into the pivot pin and that made a difference. this is the larger of the SeaDog Stainless Steel Swivels as it can go up to 3/8" chain, etc. I needed the large...

    New Anchor and Bow Roller

Actually, I have a swivel at the anchor/chain linkage. The tabs on the bolts cause a bit of interference going over the bow roller, so I have purchased the SeaDog brand that is more streamlined. I'm going to try to install it before boat launch tomorrow. :thumb:

    Mercury "Power Tune" Question . . .

I bought (via iBoats :) ) a few cans of Mercury Power Tune to de-carb my various engines. I got the Mercury stuff, as a slew of web postings favored the results over SeaFoam and the similar decarb products. When the Power tune arrived (thanks again iBoats) I noticed that on the can it says...

    New Anchor and Bow Roller

Another Update . . . I'm getting close to completion. I shopped around locally for the chain, rode and an anchor roller, making the local merchants rich  I found a local hardware/marine store that had G4 short link chain . . . $6.00/foot, but it is good stuff and the right link...
