    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Yep. Blown out coupler. Time to pull the engine.

Schematic Diagram for Vintage Faria Tachometer

The chip in the upper left-hand side is a CS 2917 which is a frequency to voltage converter. That’s what takes the tachometer signal and outputs a voltage to drive the meter. It looks like this was made sometime around 1983 according to the date code on that chip. Quite probably that diode...

Schematic Diagram for Vintage Faria Tachometer

Yeah, that’s a resistor for sure. The smaller ones are 1/4 watt ones and the one that is burnt is a half watt resistor. It makes sense that it would be a higher power resistor if it is on the main power feed. I would guess that it would be somewhere under 100 ohms. The thing is, something else...

How would a compromised bellows sink the boat?

No breather hole on this DP-SM transom shield. I was quite intimate and up-close with it for a few weeks sandblasting, Alodizing, priming, and painting it. The only hole along the whole sleeve is the one the grease tube lives in to bring grease to the gimbal bearing from the zerk fitting on...

How would a compromised bellows sink the boat?

Thanks, Bondo... The one on this DP-SM is just as tight as the front crank seal or any other kind of lip seal I've ever used. That drawing doesn't do it justice and makes it look like just a square cross section O-ring or something like that. I checked the fit against the seal surface on the...

How would a compromised bellows sink the boat?

Thanks, Scott. I'm not referring to exhaust bellows and exhaust pipe seals here, nor corrosion related issues. Those are easy for even me to understand how they could sink a vessel. I'm strictly limiting my attempt to understand how water which gets into a compromised u-joint / driveshaft...

Fuel Line USCG Type for Under RIB Floor

B1 is only for spaces that aren't enclosed where as A1 is rated for enclosed spaces. Why not just get the hose that you can use anywhere on the boat?

How would a compromised bellows sink the boat?

Could some of you smart people help me out here? Something dawned on me while reassembling this DP-SM I've been working on all summer in my spare time... Of course, it's not so much particular to VP, but I guess could apply to Mercruiser's and Yamaha's I/Os as well. I've done the same thing on...

    anc switch.

The best use for the ACC switch is to wire it to the automatic extending stripper pole. At least that's what I have been told... Anyway, it reads like it's time to do some tracing of wires. Perhaps this is wired to something that no longer exists on your boat.

    Gas guage

Unplug the sending unit when you turn off the boat to ease your mind as to whether or not it is just the way the gauge works.

Schematic Diagram for Vintage Faria Tachometer

Are you sure that's a resistor? Alone and in series with the supply would be an odd place for a resistor. I'd love to see a picture of both sides of the circuit board to offer an educated guess as to what it is.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

Problem is, if they allow the reflection of a HUD through, then they aren't doing their job eliminating the reflections on the inside of the windshield and the glare from many surfaces outside. Wife got some supposedly polarized glasses once so she could see the HUD, but rotating a polarizing...

Best Outboard Motor Brands for Reliability and Long-Term Use

Grandad put a Maytag washing machine engine on the lower unit of an old OMC. Dad was still using it in the 90s. I think it was easily 50 years old, and he gave it to my uncle who gave it to his neighbor. Wouldn’t surprise me if it is still running today.

Faria instrument gauges are still available.

They will still repair nearly all the gauges they ever made as well.
