    1989/1990 4.3 distributor

There is a lube wick in the distributor shaft that you can see when you take off the rotor. All you have to do, is put a few drops of motor oil on that once a season, and just a little distributor cam grease on the distributor cam, and check the points to see if they are getting burned. Very...

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Amazing work Ted. If you ever retire imagine what you could do! And we all know how hard it is to find people who do really good work, almost at any price.

    1989/1990 4.3 distributor

There are ones in pretty good shape that pop up on eBay or NLA marine parts, most probably only need a set of points & condenser and have the centrifugal flyweights lubed up. BTW both Merc & OMC used the same Prestolite unit, Merc’s were painted black and OMCs were grey.

You will also need to change your ESA module for one that works with an electronic distributor (CDI electronics sells them).

Overheat on 5.0 with SX outdrive

Top end overhaul is not tough on those old school engines I’d say it’s within the ability of an experienced do it yourselfer. I would be concerned about the condition of the cyls; how long was salt water in the cyls? I had a similar problem salt water in 2 cyls from blown HGs but not enough to...

    Mercruiser ECM replacement?

I can see both sides of the discussion, when you start changing things the devil is in the details, however, freedom from the marketing habits of the OEMs is one of the advantages of old school I/O power. In this case money wise it might be a wash, if all that the OP needs is the ECM, vs a new...

    Submersible trailer lights

I looked into adding the factory LED's to my son's '17 Wrangler. The price for the pair (MSRP) is $878. We decided to do a Hella H-4 conversion instead. $260 or so and bulbs are easily replacable standard H-4 bulbs you can buy anywhere. Yes the LED lights are nice though you are right! Even the...

    Corrosion on drive

I think its a common problem on all outdrives some are worse than others, but at least they are covering it which is great. I just keep painting mine with Interlux Primocron primer and anti fouling. 34 years old doesn't look great but works fine.

    Mercruiser ECM replacement?

That tin cover over the choke stove area and the few bolts I could see are angled not straight up & down says to me it’s pre Vortec for sure.

    Submersible trailer lights

Or replace them w/LED & one and done! I’m not so much a fan of LED headlights in vehicles still prefer H-4 halogen in proper ECE headlamps like your can use on older Jeep Cherokees, Wranglers and modern Wranglers but LED for everything else…

BTV Bayliner Single Axle Trailer - Over-run / Inertia Brakes?

What about brake systems used Australia? I think I recall see cable operated brakes on Au spec trailers that used discs and do have a parking brake function..... https://www.adelaidetrailersales.com.au/product/add-disk-brakes/ If they can have these in Aust why not in the UK? both use cables...

    Submersible trailer lights

Yep, best thing I ever did on my trailer was those Tecniq sealed LED lights. Installed them in 2015 and not one problem since, before that EVERY season fiddling with those old fashioned lights! https://tecniqinc.com/trailer/

    Which carpet glue?

Where I am the climate is humid/damp much of the year and my boat and many others are on mooings all season, we use mooring covers but I don't want anything at all laying on the deck to trap moisture. Boats are gonna get wet no matter what you do.

    Which carpet glue?

I could never put carpet in any open boat with a wood cored deck ever again. It holds moisture and causes rot and is the death of most open boats. Use instead a marine deck paint with non skid mixed in. I had this done to the deck in our boat when I replaced it 15 years ago. It is still...

4.3 engine mounted raw water pump inquiry

Agreed I have not had problems with impeller failure at all with my OMC Cobra drive and I’ve been changing the impeller every 3 seasons (even then there is only minimal wear). I think if anything drive mounted impellers are less prone to failure because the drive is always submerged in the...

    454 Lifter Adjustment

For a stuck valve you are looking for one or more that are lower than the rest...here are the old heads I removed from my 4.3 when I had the blown head gaskets back in 2016, if you look closely you can see a couple valves that are lower than the rest...this was due to water in a couple cyls, not...

    454 Lifter Adjustment

On a marine inboard with a bent pushrod like that I'd be thinking of checking all the valves to see if any are stuck and also check the exhaust manifolds to see of water is leaking back in the exhaust ports.
