    Mercruiser 4.3 oil gauge mystery

Got the basics but I think I'd need to see a diagram of your setup. I have no alarm either, seems one or the other would be a good idea. I could just plug the ignition into the same relay pin that powers my fuel pump. The 30 seconds or whatever that the boat would run with residual fuel from the...

For sure. The only seals I*might* replace as normal maintenance would be the lower drive shaft seal and water pump base. And only if either looked sketchy.

Well, gimbal bearing and bellows are unrelated to the drives. If the u joints have a bit of rust from sitting they're probably fine, but otherwise it's $20 and an hour or 2 or side. Water pump kit $40 and an hour or 2 per side. 3 seals are easily accessible with the drive split. Prop might take...

    Mercruiser 4.3 oil gauge mystery

It would be interesting to build an engine kill switch for op. As frequently as I check gauges, I might not notice op quickly enough (I got lucky that I noticed when sender pipe snapped twice, dumping all of my oil). Though I guess that's what the alarm is for.

I have seen very little negative about these drives from those that have purchased them. That said, why do you need 2 new drives?

    Mercruiser 4.3 oil gauge mystery

They are. If the alarm sounds at start and then goes out, but gauge is reading zero, likely fault is with the gauge/sender rather than actual low pressure Edit: that low pressure alarm doesn't sound until <6psi, which is about where the oil pressure switch closes as well. So really not very...

Maybe you were the one set on the closed cooling (I remember you going between 2 different MCMs) and @alldodge was against the cats 🤷 But 😽 definitely have ears (couldn't help it)

Topping off a compass, what to use?

Sounds like a non adjustable carb to me.

Mercruiser 5.0LX Rochester 4MV carburetor over fueling. ESN OF066511

Yes, take the carb apart. Did you replace needle and seat? Did you verify that they sealed correctly? Double check float? Check fuel pressure next if all is the above checks out

'09 Merc 5.0L Carb / Alpha 1 - Engine runs and will not respond to ignition or kill switch when at temperature?

@achris had posted the specs for a more robust and much cheaper generic diode that can be used at some point. https://forums.iboats.com/search/2713252/?q=tks+diode&c[users]=achris&o=date

Oh, for some reason I thought you got in before cats got involved. So you don't have a BOAT, more like a BOAFT (another 5 thousand...)

    1. Not #1 2. Not #2 3. Mentioned at least twice so far in this thread 4. You said you already checked and adjusted

Pump shouldn't be running with the key off. Double check that. When you had the carb off, did you check the needle and seat? You need to make sure the needle is sealing

Odd.. Fuel trim codes in a car would indicate a rich or lean condition and rely on o2 sensors to determine. Didn't think your boat has them?

Which 4.3s have a bypass circuit?

    Baretta

Yes, it will feel like you're trying to start a car in gear. Nearly everything spins in the outdrive even in neutral. You'll be pulling that drive sooner or later; pull it now and see if the engine turns over easier
