1995 Four Winns Horizon 190 depth finder

My 1988 has a transducer on the starboard side of the bilge just in front of the engine. The dash gauge was long gone when I got this boat and I've been using a Garmin 441S sounder/GPS for some years, a pretty good unit.

1995 Searay 5.7 GM winterizing mods..

Yes the “problem” is not enough profits and the “solution” is designed in planned failure.

In fresh water the ball valves may work but in the salt you need a drain plug that can be removed so the hole can be rodded out so they can drain. They will often get clogged with rust flakes. The original OMC/Volvo drain plugs seem to last forever. I fail to see what “problem” the plastic Merc...

    Second Happiest Day . . .

Must have been a chilly ride out there it was only about 50 degrees here in LI yesterday. Boat looks very stable out on the water… It’s actually going up to the 70s for Wed and Thurs

High Performance Gear Lube Color - Bravo 3

as others said that bright green definitely suggests some water intrusion, it is usually a dark bluish-green.

The rear mounted P/S coolers on the OMCs and Volvos have a drain but its a finger buster to get at, I just disconnect the raw water intake hose at the thermo housing and hold that hose down in the bilge to drain then hold it up and fill with marine AF till it runs out the water intakes on the...

    1987, 454 Help!

keep in mind that the electric choke needs a constant 12V supply or it will close, they are better called "electric opening chokes". Normally with no power to the terminals they will close and the engine will run very rich. I have the old style divorced choke with the spring mounted on the...

No water draining from exhaust manifold

That does seen odd, I've been draining raw water cooled manifolds in salt water for many years and never ran into that. Unless the boat sucked up silt and it passed though the raw water side of the cooling system and clogged the manifold. Has this manifold been running hotter than the other? If...

    1987, 454 Help!

what? pull the engine because it's running rich? What kind of mechanic says that?! Quadrajet carb? Is it set up correctly? These are complex carbs you have to know what you are doing to get them to work right. If the engine is running rich you need a real mechanic who knows Quadrajets if that's...

Help with interpreting AFR gauge readings

Holley.com has support forums, try posting up there, I think for sure someone will know. It sounds like you're having trouble in the transition when the secondaries just start to open. Which power valve does this carb have? There's a procedure to determine what valve you should be using that is...

how about if you remove the manifold on that side? some people have to do that to get at the starter if in fresh water the bolts should come out ok

    Winterizing time

starboard side drain is betweeen the starter and the engine mount. Here's the one on my old 1988, OMC used a 90* connector to clear the older style large direct drive starter....

Help find part number of OMC engine

#76 is the driveshaft bellows, this is supposed to be water tight, no water inside. #31 is the exhaust bellows this normally has water in it.

Help find part number of OMC engine

it's ALWAYS more work than we thought! Leaky exhaust on an inboard engine with water cooled manifolds is the #1 killer of engines.

Help find part number of OMC engine

That looks like it needs to be taken apart and inspected. If its all rusted up and patched you need to replace it. The gaskets for between the manifold and elbows are still available from BRP, or in the aftermarket (Barr Marine is a good brand). When you take the manifold off the engine you'll...

    SX-M bellows housing seals?

Something like Evinrude triple guard grease works well; it’s a thick water proof grease that works well in this application.

    OMC Cobra Information

That # you can look up on Holley.com the carb looks like a marine unit, it has the J tube, the throttle lever does have the bracket used by VP, so that's good, that spring, not needed, just make sure that the end where the cable is anchored to the intake is not boogered up too much so the cable...

Elbow and exhaust manifold inspection what do you think?

yep when I took my heads off 4 years ago the original rubber gaskets were still fine. Saved em in my pile of spare parts. Much better than the old style cork gaskets and perimeter bolts on small block Chevrolets, they ALWAYS leaked!

Elbow and exhaust manifold inspection what do you think?

I didn't paint the sealing surfaces (just the rest of the elbows & manifolds) but some do. thanks for the tip Chris I'll remember that!
