should I use a support for my outdrive on my H190?

They make plastic clips that fit over the trim piston rods for this. If you can store the boat with the drive down because the driveshaft bellows will last longer that way.

Volvo Penta 3.0 I/O Overheating. Brand New Engine!

I'm sure you'll get it sooner or later. Definitely don't give up. These I/O cooling systems can be tricky. So you are fixing the old boat too? I hope so, I love the classic lines of the old FWs. Couple of little things....on the Volvo SX (just like the OMC Cobra) there is a plastic fitting in...

Water in oil, could this be the issue?

Before you install them check the mating surfaces with a straight edge and feeler gauges, mine were flat to less than .001" If you are in salt water I'd put a better coat of paint on them because the OE paint is thin. I just brushed on a couple of coats of rustoleum. The manifolds don't or...

Water in oil, could this be the issue?

I installed a set of Barr manifolds 4 seasons ago and they fit perfect with no leaks.

1992 Mercruiser 4.3 w/ balance shaft and 1 piece rear main seal swap to newer year Vortec.

When I did my top end overhaul I used reman pre-vortec heads, I'm pretty sure they were just automotive heads, no different, about $550 for the pair.

    Impeller housing overheating

And ignition vs carb as a cause of bad running well both can be implicated but ignition is both easier to troubleshoot and to fix. You can easily see fouled spark plugs burned points , or a corroded distributor cap. A carb well you have to do a lot of disassembly to see what’s up with it and...

Cannot install the drive OMC Cobra

Great did you use the thin screwdriver trick?

    Impeller housing overheating

I’m thinking if that’s the original points distributor with mechanical centrifugal advance you have stretched advance springs allowing the advance to drift up to 26* whereas it’s supposed to top out at 18* total. Either that or worn bushings in the distributor. Those springs are hard to find but...

Who has starting doing all their own maintenance?

Well I can’t take credit for it, I bought this one from Stumpys Fab Works. Bought it about 8 years ago; works great!

Who has starting doing all their own maintenance?

I'd get the shop manual for the Zuke and do it yourself. We have a little DF 2.5 for our dinghy and it is hardly any work to maintain. The biggest job really is the impeller in the lower unit.

Milky Oil in 2006 Glastron GX 205 with Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-E

When I converted my old OMC one piece exhaust to the newer 2 piece later OMC/Volvo style I used Barr marine aftermarket exhaust and their gaskets with Permatex Aviation sealer. Worked great, did this 4 years ago and no leaks. 100% salt water.

    94 Searay 200 Fixer Upper

I would not. Its going to take forever, and will be about the nastiest job you have taken on unless you flip houses that really filty people lived in. You will learn how to rebuild a boat, yes. You will not be using that boat, for at least a year, unless living in a Tyvec suit is your idea of a...

Milky Oil in 2006 Glastron GX 205 with Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-E

Interesing there looks like there was some pitting on the intake sealing surface that maybe the PO tried to resurface out, but you can only go so far before the intake will no longer match up to the cyl heads due to the geometery of how it fits together. If your heads are good make sure to use a...

Who has starting doing all their own maintenance?

Just a few of the things I've aquired over the years. Old school I/O engines are very simple especially if you understand carburators....not many left with points and condenser ignition though!

Who has starting doing all their own maintenance?

Start out with a factory shop manual, drive jack and alignment tool. Set of sockets in SAE and metric most fittings on older engines are SAE. Spark plug sockets extensions crow foot wrenches ratcheting box wrenches also. Take your time to learn. Not everything on you tube is correct. I’ve been...

E3 sparkplugs OMC 3.0 Cobra (chev)

exactly, that's all I ever used in my old 4.3...they really do not rust, even in my salt air.

Cannot install the drive OMC Cobra

I use a drive jack so I can get the drive at exactly the right height and also what helps is to get a long thin screwdriver, slide this in the u joints and when trying to get the driveshaft into the coupler, use the screwdriver to turn the driveshaft just enough for the splines to align. All it...

Volvo Penta 3.0 I/O Overheating. Brand New Engine!

Have you found a reason for the overheats? Or do they come more or less randomly? There is a document (PDF) called Volvo Penta Overheat Diagnosis. See if you can find it & print it out and if you follow all the steps I bet you’ll find the cause.

Looking for bare engine block with pistons

And since there have been no new Quadrajets since 1990 good cores are to find. So it’s a Holley, Quick Fuel (like a deluxe better quality Holley) or the Edelbrock.
