Riser To Manifold Torque w/Sierra gasket

I did it 4 years ago so I can't remember exactly where I got em but I think it was from the TSB that seems to have disappeared. Those are the specs I used, using the Barr gaskets and no leaks at all, salt water use. But the Volvo updated gaskets are different, so if I was using those, I'd follow...

Need help with parts list- converting TBi to old school carb

OK 2 things: why do you want to use both pumps? One is a low pressure pump and one is a high pressure pump, so for a carb installation all you should need is the low pressure pump second, now this is from memory but I think the power source on the starter solenoid is actually to bypass the oil...

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

certainly could be.... back in the hot rod era usually with a highly tuned engine radical cam, you needed a close ratio manual trans for it to perform. so with a single speed transmission that a boat has, emphasis should really be on torque at the expense of HP.

Riser To Manifold Torque w/Sierra gasket

15 years? you must be in fresh water because in 15 years I'd have changed the exhaust at least 2x if not 3x lol. So, I would probably want to run a belt sander on those to make sure there are no pits or slightly corroded areas if you want to reuse them. What we do is usually replace the elbow at...

    Momentary freezing inboard

also: a small amount of residual water even if it freezes will have room to expand in most cases, if you drained it properly.

    Old gas

Is it straight gas or E-10? If straight gas I would think you probably won't have a problem. Is the tank full? I have used E-10 stabilized as much as 2 years old and not had a problem in the boat.

    2004 volvo penta 5.0 gl-e camshaft

also pick up an appropriate sized thread chaser (take the old bolt to the store to match it up) to clean out the holes in the block, the get gunked up due to raw water cooling and then the head bolts might not thread all the way in affecting torque readings. You might even want to thread the...

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

and one last point, vehicles have transmissions, boats don't which is related to this point of the importance of power curves.

    4.3 Mercruiser cold start issues

But this is the USA, anyone can sue anyone. If this was still happening we’d have heard about it. In fact even though Merc stopped using them OMC and Volvo used them from when Quadrajet production ended in 1989 or so until the change over to TBI. That means they were used approx 10 more years...

Riser To Manifold Torque w/Sierra gasket

Do they look like these? These came with my Barr exhaust kit, they sealed well, installed about 3.5 years ago. you could try torqueing the bolts that hold the exhaust elbows on, (people call them risers but the are elbows, a riser is a spacer between the manifold and the elbow). Try 25 ft lbs...

Glue vs clip VP SX exhaust bellows

sometimes grease can separate and liquify and look like water, dip a napkin or a paper towel in it and see what it looks like. If it eventually evaporates it was water but if not it could have been liquefied separated grease

    4.3 Mercruiser cold start issues

I think that's a thing of the past Chris, if that were still an issue in the USA, you KNOW that Holley would have a pack of lawyers after them. Probably 80% of classic muscle cars and hot rods here are running Holley carbs, or their derivatives like Quick Fuel et al. Yet you never really hear...

    4.3 Mercruiser cold start issues

Interesting, I heard good things pretty much always about the Edelbrock carb but didn't really know this characteristic of it. Older Quadrajets had leaks from a welsh plug in the bottom of the bowl but I have not had that with mine. I also tried a Holley 4160 on mine for a while and that didn't...

    Pulling outdrive question????!!!

The bellows on this design, is actually at the top of the tube where the shift cable comes out in the engine compartment, it doesn't need to be replaced, until you replace the shift cable. Totally different design than the Merc Alpha shift cable bellows.

That's what makes it! easy engine access.

    Momentary freezing inboard

Definitely drain it. The risk of cracking something is just not worth it.

    4.3 Mercruiser cold start issues

And that's the advantage of a mechanical fuel pump, the engine stalls, pump stops, if the pump diaphragm leaks, the gas goes into the yellow overflow hose. Too bad modern GM small blocks did away with mount for the mechanical pump. And the pump will not fail to run if there is a wiring issue...

    Pulling outdrive question????!!!

Well if the flange on the gimble housing is in good shape with no corrosion you probably don't need it, but on older boats used in salt water it might be helpful. Bruce I see you sold the Volvo and went with Mercruiser, how do they compare? Cobalt is a beautiful boat. For me though no more...

    98 4.3L Vortec problem

Yep could be a cracked block/heads or if it has the Merc V6 one piece manifolds, they can fail and put water in a cyl and in the oil. Was the boat stored in freezing temps? Winterized properly?
