Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

I miss relatively those simple fun rear wheel drive cars. I find the universal adoption of front drive numbingly boring. A couple generations of people don't know anything other than terminal understeer. Those rear drive cars rewarded skilled drivers. Any vehicle I buy for myself must be either...

Mercruiser 470, 2 to 4 barrel carb conversion.

Yep somehow I had another account 18 years ago when I registered and it must have still been active! As long as my original short block is OK with the reman heads I put on 3 years ago I'll keep running this one, but when its time since it looks like I'm keeping this boat for the near future, I'm...

    Lead Paint in 1976

Good plan ....lead poisoning is nothing to fool around with especially if you have young children. It’s a well known neurotoxin to the developing brain & nervous system.

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

Actually Scott I think the Omni/Horizon was more related to Chrysler of Europe’s Simca Horizon with different suspension and VW based engine. Look it up on www.allpar.com. I recall the Opel GT being sold as a mini Corvette and yes the Chevette was based on an Opel design that was also built in...

Mercruiser 470, 2 to 4 barrel carb conversion.

That’s exactly why I would add closed cooling to any engine that I install to replace my original when the time comes. Ease of rewinterizing you can actually use the winterizing tank instead of pulling out seats bending and stretching etc. Closed cooling + remote oil filter are must haves if I...

    Lead Paint in 1976

they make lead paint test kits, a lot of people use them when redoing old houses, I might want to test it to make sure. You do not want to make lead dust, it is toxic to the nervous system.

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

Yes we got the Mk1 and Mk2 Capris, and the story I read in one of the car magazines at the time was that Ford engineers were frustrated by the fact that we could have made our Mustang as good, but marketing made them put the money into size, rather than better design. The Capri itself was mostly...

    1995 OMC 5.0L Winterizing

There’s the 2 block drains the 2 manifold drains and you need to disconnect the lower end of the big hose that connects the thermostat housing with the bottom of the circulation pump. Also, most OMC/Volvo engines have a power steering cooler on the rear of the engine. These have a drain plug but...

Aq271c fuel feed pipe to Holley 4106 4bbl

The main thing is to make sure the jetting is correct so that it’s not running lean which can cause engine damage over time. A 600 cfm carb is more than adequate for a 5.0 V8. Check spark plug center electrode insulator color to judge.

    Dreaded Fuel Cell Whine?

Is your fuel filter clean? Changed recently? What about the anti siphon valve on the gas tank, this is an often overlooked case of fuel starvation. I had it on my engine years ago. 160 is not running hot that is actually the temp that the thermostat is set to open up. 120-130 is too cold.

Aq271c fuel feed pipe to Holley 4106 4bbl

Better than a 2bbl though. Was there an adapter on the intake manifold? looks like a q-jet pattern gasket there on top of the Holly style one. Sierra also makes a flex fuel hose you can use its pricey but makes the hook up easier. That 4160 has the same fuel line hook up as mine so that fuel...

    1995 OMC 5.0L Winterizing

Correct you drain for freeze protection and back fill with AF to reduce corrosion. I’d just make sure to really poke those holes well, get a set of picks and really dig them out because my starboard side one used to drain really slowly, when I did my top end overhaul I could really get down...

Aq271c fuel feed pipe to Holley 4106 4bbl

Holley carbs have a few different fuel inlet configurations, depending on the actual carb used. When I was working on a 4160 conversion on my OMC V6 I was able to find a preformed fuel line that worked perfect, a bit pricey though...

help with running surge brake lines

Also they may be assuming you are using stainless hard lines along the frame back to the axle, then a flex line to the axle, hard line across the axles, and flex lines to the brake calipers. While some use flex hose for the whole thing, I think its better to have flex lines only between the...

    4.3GL Engine draining ports

For the manifolds it depends on if they are OE or aftermarket, but usually on the Volvo style manifolds there is the water intake port on the front and on the back side in the same spot there is a drain plug. Some OE Volvo ones have a plug in the middle of the underside of the manifold. If you...

1997 4.3GS with Holley 4 barrel with flat spot on acceleration at 3500 rpm

You know its possible that OMC and Volvo changed the carb # when GM went to the Vortec head design (1996 or so) and Holley never updated their catalog but supplied whichever carb OMC/Volvo switched to. A mystery, because even if you look in an older OMC or Volvo parts catalog you'll find their...

1997 4.3GS with Holley 4 barrel with flat spot on acceleration at 3500 rpm

https://documents.holley.com/techlibrary_carb_numerical_listing.pdf try looking here, you'll go cross-eyed but might find what you have lol. I looked and found "R75007-1" for the power valve they list 125-65...

1997 4.3GS with Holley 4 barrel with flat spot on acceleration at 3500 rpm

the one I have is: SAE J1223 80492-1 then under that 2057 If you go onto the Holley site looking for a new carb for the OMC/Volvo 4.3 V6 this is the carb listed but the OP obviously has something different.

Anything I could do to prevent rusting of internal surfaces?

When I did a similar repair (removed cyl heads due to blown head gaskets, found heads to be cracked and replaced them) the cyl heads were off for about a month. I usually leave the engine filled with marine antifreeze (raw water cooled) during the winter but did not that year because I knew I...

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

Of course with the increases in fuel costs we did get a lot of European vehicles here throughout that time period, and one of my favorites was the Ford Capri (sold her as a Mercury). It was a really nice vehicle for the time with a Ford 1600 cc engine and the option of a 2000 cc. My cousin had a...
