    Re; Broke spark plug

with an engine mounted impeller, if the water line drained of water when the boat was pulled out, unless your muffs fit really well you can have this problem. Not as common on an Alpha since the raw water impeller is right in the lower gear housing and the water doesn't have to travel far before...

Find a good automotive machine shop and ask them.

    Warm Start issues... HELP!!!

Post up a pic of what you have; pix of the intake & carb & choke set up. 8 bolt or 12 bolt intake? Was the engine replaced with an older pre Vortec engine?

    Can't find 1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Pre-Vortex intake manifold

Well that depends on what you want to do. If you want to add about 20 hp or so go with an Edelbrock 1409. If you’re happy with the performance of the 2 bbl and want to save money then I’d think about a used 2bbl cast intake from eBay or places like NLA marine parts. What’s wrong with the...

    Can't find 1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Pre-Vortex intake manifold

No need to replace the distributor; the Vortec heads are a nice upgrade if yours needs head work anyway. I bought two 4.3 cast iron 4bbl intakes from eBay and they were both in good shape. Still using my original that’s been used in salt water 15+ seasons. I think filling the engine with good...

    Can't find 1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Pre-Vortex intake manifold

They make a brass lined version, check their site. Used cast iron ones can work perfectly well as long as the water passage isn’t cracked. Usually all you have to do is clean up the sealing surfaces. Try to get one from sellers in the Midwest fresh water regions.

    Can't find 1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Pre-Vortex intake manifold

That’s all that you’re going to find, they probably haven’t been made in years. Other option is an Edelbrock aluminum intake.

    Re; Broke spark plug

Make sure your muffs fit well. Some are made out of rubber that’s too stiff to confirm to the lower gear housing. And then not enough water gets sucked up to the impeller. The best ones I’ve used are the Merc/Quicksilver round ones with the metal rod clamp.

    Warm Start issues... HELP!!!

Hmmm a Quadrajet on a 1998 boat? Sure about that? Because Quadrajet production stopped about 1989 or so and after that OMC & Volvo changed to Holley and Merc changed to the Weber (Edelbrock). If there is really a Quadrajet on a 98 engine which should be a Vortec I’d like to see how the choke is...

5.0L MPI Idle Air Control Valve OEM vs Aftermarket

Old school carb means no proprietary parts that can be made NLA like what happens with engine ECMs and ignition modules. It’s all the in the aftermarket with carbs no matter what your preference is due to the huge collectible car and hot rod aftermarket. Quadrajet, Holley or Edelbrock take your...

5.0L MPI Idle Air Control Valve OEM vs Aftermarket

I do the same, the flame arrestor gets surprisingly dirty. I do like my stone age engine very much vs MPI (points distributor, Quadrajet carb, mechanical fuel pump) so much that when I need a new engine I'm going to find a reman 4.3 so I can keep using the old style mechanical pump etc, intake...

Volvo Penta 5.7 AQ271C Electric Fuel pump coversion

Here's the original and a Sierra that I picked up because the Carter was back ordered for a while, but I did get the Carter as a spare. They're cheap enough! For some reason the V6 pumps mount upside down relative to the V8 pumps.

Volvo Penta 5.7 AQ271C Electric Fuel pump coversion

Agreed the only thing that can happen is the diaphragm can dry out and crack and leak. But you'd know that because there should be gas in that yellow tygon tube. BTW, on mine the port that is supposed to allow gas to flow into that tube in the case of a leak, was plugged up with sludge etc from...

Volvo Penta 5.7 AQ271C Electric Fuel pump coversion

PS if you do wind up replacing it keep in mind it’s probably a Carter Marine mechanical pump. If you get the part # off the pump and look for it on Carters website to see if they still make it you might be able to buy it from Summit Racing or Jegs on line. Don’t pay the price Volvo Penta wants...

5.0L MPI Idle Air Control Valve OEM vs Aftermarket

That is great information for anyone who has an engine with at IAC valve! I am amazed by what Merc Volvo and OMC charged for parts they bought from other suppliers. OMC/BRP wanted $230 for a Carter marine mechanical pump you can find at Jegs or Summit racing for $85-90. Figure out who made it...

Looking for bare engine block with pistons

Looks Good! I will put up pix when I get the coaming pane off on the starboard side, this job is a pain because of how FW attached them, stainless studs with nuts on the inside, but of course the do not come off. When I did the port side I had to cut them with a hacksaw, took me hrs. This time I...
