impeller and housing install 1991 OMC Cobra with 4.3L

The manual advises that you use OMC gasket sealer to glue the cage in the housing and seal the gasket. I also use it on the bolt threads, it helps keep them from seizing. Sometimes I've had a gasket that refuses to lay flat in the groove in the housing and I've better luck using a thick grease...

'08 Volvo Penta 5.7 GI Water In Cylinders

Agreed the leak down test is not a necessity but a very good diagnostic tool because it will tell you where the comp loss is occurring, intake valve, exhaust valve, or piston rings. If your comp test results are good (usually you will see between 160-175 or so) then you don't need to do it, but...

    So I've been thinking

What I'd do is use the Vortec heads, get a cast iron Vortec 4-bbl intake, a Holley 4160 calibrated for the V6 engine (Holley already sells them set up this way, just look on their website) and get the Barr aftermarket Volvo center riser style exhaust. You can still get the fuel line made for the...

Oil change tips for volvo 4.3 GXI-E

I've used Sierra Marine oil filters for years on my 4.3. I use the Topsider vacuum pump with a garden hose attachment its very fast after you pump it up. I use the Mercruiser 25/40 Marine oil because it holds up well and has better than typical corrosion resistance. I found their claims of this...

Any experience with Fel Pro marine gasket sets on the 4.3?

OK these are 2 general questions, applicable to either Merc, Volvo or OMC....anyone had experience with Fel Pro Marine gasket sets? I ask because I am about to put my 4.3 back together with a set of re-man heads, and all new gaskets. I called Fel Pro to ask about installing the intake gaskets...

Gotta run new brakes lines - suggestions?

No Title Like this: I have a Tie Down 66 and its very easy to pump it with a screwdriver to bleed. Just keep the bleeder higher than the level of the brakes, or master cyl to get all the air bubbles out.

http://www.crowleymarine.com/johnson...cfm?mdl=KK1PPB water tube gaskets part # 75, part 76 is a plastic guide that guides the water tube into the lower gasket. Only other things are a clog in the power steering cooler, you should back flush the hose from the transom mount at the thermo housing...

No Title here you go 15 years salt water mooring.... 2 bellows, one gimble bearing, 3 sets of exhaust manifolds, 2 carb rebuilds, a few seal replacements, no internal drive repairs at all, no need to change shift cable, still has drag within OMC specs, shifts with 2 fingers.

Volvo Penta 5.7 GL Drive will not come off

smear this stuff on the mating surface for the drive & pivot housing and anywhere you see corrosion, then next time it will be easier. Also coat the splines on your driveshaft with this as well....

Would like opinion on the condition of the exhaust elbow Mercruiser 3.0

Agreed with those above, it looks good, but we can't see the actual sealing surface, is it pitted and rusted, or will it clean up flat? One of your cooling outlets looked clogged also.

    Prop Shaft Lubricant identification

Ahh fresh water guys.....normal wheel bearing grease.....will NOT cut it for 6 months in salt water. Been there and doing this 15 years. What you want, is the magical Evinrude blue snot otherwise known as Evinrude Triple Guard Grease. This stuff will be on the prop shaft when you remove the...

OMC COBRA 4.3. BURNING MY HOSES. GETTING HOT

Here is your pic, and how to get these off, once you slide the hose down, very easy. If the hoses will not come off the aluminum coupler, get a small screwdriver and pry around where it fits on the coupler. You may have to replace these hoses anyway because they are probably scorched. When you...
