    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I would dread going back to a car without a CANBUS. Cars are WAY more easier to diagnose now. Boat engines have CANBUS too. I had a bad miss on my 2017 Cobalt. I kinda shotgunned the repair by replacing the 4 coils. Later bought my Rinda scanner. If I had bought the Rinda scanner first, I would...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

In my Rivian, the display turns to a black background...not an issue at night. Jeez there are a lot of "old people" in this thread. Get off my lawn!

    Surge Brake replacement parts

Fortunately, every trailer I have now has discs including my travel trailer. Two of them have EOH. No need for discs if all you go is 15 miles a year.

    Surge Brake replacement parts

My last boat, that I used in salt water and fresh, had brake rotors that were 15 years old when I sold it. Regular metal rotors. Of course I rinsed the rotors after I dunked the trailer in salt. I had some stainless Tiedown disc brakes that I threw in the trash after a year because they warped...

    Surge Brake replacement parts

I have 450 miles on mine with one trip. No wonder yours lasted so long. You have maybe 300 miles on yours.

    Surge Brake replacement parts

What was your longest trip with it? How many miles a year?

    Surge Brake replacement parts

If it was my trailer, I would be 3d printing the spacer! Unfortunately, my new pontoon trailer came with a Tie Down surge brake coupler.

    Solar charging batteries

This may have been asked but how long have you owned these and what brand? Most have at least a 5 year warranty.

    Solar charging batteries

More than likely what is happening... Cells are imbalanced. As you charge, one or more of the cells reaches maximum voltage which is usually 3.65 which turns off all charging. The total pack doesn't get high enough to start balancing because you have one or more very low cells. If you can't...

    Solar charging batteries

Can your battery case be opened with screws? If so, you could measure each cell and see what the voltages are.

    Solar charging batteries

LOL...What voltage batteries did you have that were LiFePO4? What brand tool? Show a link to the battery you are talking about! BTW...Google is your friend.

    Water in bilge

I just helped a friend who had a similar issue with his Volvo Penta. Once he yanked his boat I found the bellows had a 1/2" open crack in it. I could tell it had been changed at one point since the clamp was in the wrong position. When was the last time you had your bellows replaced? You said...

    Solar charging batteries

They have NEVER been LiFePO4. Before Lithium NMC, they we NiMH

    Solar charging batteries

Batteries for power tools including Dewalt and Black and Decker use Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide batteries. They do not use LiFePO4. A BMS uses around 1mA unless it's bluetooth(if it has that feature) is active. Even with a small drain like that, it will draw down a 100AH battery in a...

    Solar charging batteries

Your battery is toast. If you let them sit that long, one or more of the 4 cells self discharged lower than minimal cell voltage which is around 2.5V. There is likely no recovery.

    2025 NFL/CFB News and Nonsense

There are talks of Franklin going to UCLA...hope that does NOT happen. UCLA should keep Skipper and Jerry Neuheisel for at least one more season.

    Trailer Load musings

Here is an example...My travel trailer weighs 6500# with 5700# on the tandem axles. That's 1425# /tire. A passenger tire of the same size I use is 1360#/tire after derating...not enough and definitely no margin. I have 3500# axles so they would not even come close to meeting the spec for the...

Restoration of 08 Avalon - need to make the right choices

I buy my vinyl and other fabric through Trivantage. My brother was an auto dealer so I was able to get signed up with them through him. Any upholsterer will have access to that company. They sell a LOT of different vinyl. I sew mainly boat covers. I get all my Sunbrella from them.

    Trailer Load musings

If you use passenger tires, you need to derate the weight carrying by 10%. I have never owned a trailer that I could buy passenger tires for and have enough weight carrying capability....not even close!
