    Transon mounted trolling motor

Used one for years without any serious issues, but wind pushes these tinnies around no matter what. My bow mount is easier to control over the transom mount, but...if the poster already has a bow mount then adding a transom mount will make steering a breeze

    Transon mounted trolling motor

As long as wind and waves are not strong, yes it will push your boat, but not fast ! Back in the day, I had an 18' center console with a 36# MK trolling motor and trolled for walleye with it for years. Probably only a couple mph but it worked. V you could use both front and rear trolling...

    Battery power for propane fireplace

We considered a standby genny but our power supplier told us we were in an ideal spot to receive power as we had two different suppliers in our area. If one lost power an automatic switch changed to the other. Never been without power for more than a few hours due to accidents taking down...

    Battery power for propane fireplace

Back in our old neighborhood we had only one house fire in our 25 years living there, that was a 5 yr old all electric home. No matter what you have their are risks.

    Battery power for propane fireplace

I have a neighbor with a backup propane heater for his home. He has recently hooked up a LifeP04 battery and an inverter to create 110 house current from the battery. Last winter he did a mock heat test for a weekend during winter. With the inverter not only his flame stayed lit but also the...

    I should add a 2nd battery...

Most battery mfgrs that make LA batteries, recommend a slow charge when their battery is really low....the high voltage charge from an alternator when the battery is really low will shorten the battery life. Family member has an auto repair shop, when folks run their batteries really low then...

    I should add a 2nd battery...

I had 6 good years from my LA batteries, no complaints, but for the price of two LA deep cycle batteries, I bought one 140ah LifeP04 battery and it has 3-4x the run time as the 2 LA batteries ! Plus is not worrying about recharge until the Lipo gets down to 30% capacity. These batteries...

New prop and trim tabs update.

Trim tabs most always help to get a boat up on plane....the real question is...what is your max wot rpm ? This is the number you need to know if your hurtng your engine....Rpm to low and your hurting it and rpm to high is also hurting it !!

    I should add a 2nd battery...

Being that far away and unmaned, I am surprised your boat is still there ! With that said, you safest bet would be to go with a LifeP04 battery. The run time is easily 3-4x as long as any lead acid battery and you can get them in even bigger capacities, so they can run for days. My 140ah Lipo...

    Fish finders

Look for used electronics, especially if you have bass clubs in your area. Many if those guys get some sponsorship from the electronics makers so they sell their 1 or 2 yr old stuff at a reduced price. I have a 2013 model Lawrance gps/ fish finder that has more bells and whistles than I know...

    Erratic tachomether

There are contacts inside that you can't get to that can corrode. By moving that back and forth vigorisly will help clean those contacts. Be sure you return to the original contact when you started. That worked on my tach when it started reading wonky.....

    Fish finders

Die hard boating fan here, just the ride out and back is enjoyable for me...catching is an extra bonus. I often just take my boat out for a ride up and down the river going thru our town. Nice to see what changes, improvements and damage has been done to the shoreline along the river. Many...

    Erratic tachomether

Years back, my tach started acting up, giving eratic readings. It was suggested I look for the pole switch on the back, mark the current setting, then using a screw driver move the pole setting screw back and forth to clean the inside contacts. It appears some light corrosion can build up and...

2004 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer sudden leak

If the transom wood is getting soft, it could have swelled up and stopped temporarily. Drill a few test holes and if dry, then you can scratch that off the list.

Mercruiser 3.0 overheated, Is my motor shot?

If proper work was done, those flappers would have been replaced and the pieces removed!! Pull the head and get it reworked, valves ground, check all cylinders for scoring, reinstall with new head gasket and enjoy your boat. If you had done that to start....you would be cruising now, not still...

    Fuel Tank incorrectly labelled?

If you have a large fuel tank, it can be a lot of work. My tank is only 18 gallon, actually 17 usable gallons on a good day. I am going to start using the fuel station to make my measurements. I can adjust my trailer to get the proper angle while hitched to my tow vehicle, so then I will just...
