How to find the best Doctor

If I had a specialist that I liked and trusted, I'd just drive the 2.5 hours to see them. Especially if we're dealing with the 'C' word....

Why is finding information on boats so difficult?

@NorinRadd , if you put the type of boat and the serial numbers for your engine and drive (assuming an I/O) in your signature, it will make it very easy for people to help you find answers to your questions. Nothing bad will happen if you post that info publicly and there are many folks here who...

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

Don’t do it. Get OEM parts. Nobody has ever finished a bellows job and regretted using OEM parts. That cannot be said for aftermarket brands…

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

Yeah, definitely replace trim limit/trim sender switch while in there.

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

Changing the bellows is sufficiently time-consuming (and important) to require only OEM parts. @Scott06's recommendations about Power Tune and using weedwacker string or wire to help re-trace the shift cable are right on, too.

    projects other than boats

Sounds similar to pecan. That stuff eats planer blades, too. Your closet fixture looks great!

    projects other than boats

Closet looks really good, Scott. How was working with hickory? I've not done projects with it; I usually work with hard maple or red oak or cherry.

    Leak in aluminum boat

I imagine re-bucking the rivets is the best fix, but I can say I've used Gluvit in a similar situation and that repair has held up in excess of 12-13 years. Since Gluvit is an epoxy, UV light will degrade it, so you do need to cover it with a coat of paint.

Impeller Question with Rabbit Ears On

Unless you ran the engine without a supply of water, the impeller should still be good. In freshwater, you should be able to get at least three or four years out of one.

    Spare battery

I added a second battery and, while it was a pain in the neck, routing the new cables back behind the engine (across the transom) was much cleaner. No way I'd run them through the bilge. Do it right the first time and you won't need to do it a second time...

    Keel Guard

Must-have addition if you beach your boat, in my opinion. I installed one years ago and it still looks great.

Adding A Stern Mounted Trim Switch

I added a Mercruiser switch (Part #87-815200A1). It came with the switch and a wiring harness that is just plug and play; no splicing required. Super easy to install and one of the best purchases I ever made for my boat. Looks like Iboats doesn't carry it, but you can find it at...

    outdoor cooking station build

Looks good! Is that a vinyl fence? If so, you might want some sort of heat shield between the grill/burners and the fences. My wife fired up our grill and it was too close to our vinyl siding and a bunch of the siding got too warm and started drooping...

Chopstran is clumpy. Is this an issue when putting on the regular fiberglass?

MIni rollers do work better for wetting out large areas, but even then, you can get clumping when using CSM. It's miserable stuff, IMO.

Chopstran is clumpy. Is this an issue when putting on the regular fiberglass?

You don’t need to lay CSM first. That’s why 1708 is nice; it is 1700 biaxial cloth with CSM stitched to it. Just be sure the CSM side is laid against the substrate and the woven side is facing out.
