    Check the flywheel key. Might be shared. Set the top cylinder in TDC. The curved line at the distributor pulley should line up with the flywheel rim. If not the timing is off, maybe the flywheel is shared.

    First of all check for good spark at both cylinders, then check compression. If you have compression and spark then check the flywheel key. If it is shared, then the timing is off and it would not start even if spark, compression and fuel delivery is okey.

    Please check the model number on both and post those. They should be interchangeable, but there was some different LU. Single exhaust and dual exhaust, one piece drive shaft and two piece drive shaft. 2:1 or 1,93:1 gear ratio.

    It depends which ignition system it has. The 55 Hp from late 60.es and early 70.es had three different systems. 1. Magneto Champion L4J or equal 2. Battery Champion L4J or equal 3. Magnapower Champion UL18V 555HA should have magneto ignition but someone could have change it.

    Check the fuel pump diaphragm, I think you have a hole in it and the cylinder driving the pump will get fuel right through the crank case and push it out the exhaust down the leg.

    Mastertech marine and others have coil that should fit. Part number is 185-2370. The wire colours do not matter, the important thing is that it fit and the resistance of the secondary winding is in about right range.
