Can I swap factory tilt/trim from Mercury version 85hp to US Marine version 85?

The white plastic adapter is just pressed on the copper-tube (unless someone glued it) DON'T pull the copper P/U-tube out!! Hold the P/U-tube in place & try then by making a twisting motion while pulling on the adapter. IF all fails.........you could break the adapter off the tube so you can...

Can I swap factory tilt/trim from Mercury version 85hp to US Marine version 85?

Force went to a 2-piece shaft (on the 85HP & some other) in '88 so they could use the same as the one used on the L-drive units The later version you have came in '91/'9 B model & many other version followed. Believe me when I say; it comes off, I do it every time when I have a motor just...

Can I swap factory tilt/trim from Mercury version 85hp to US Marine version 85?

The are both Force/US-marine lower-units (there is A later Merc. version(s) that are not compatible)the two you have still are. The white plastic-adapter on the copper P/U-tube will come off & you can slide on the preferred one However the water-pump housing & plate can not be swapped-out

Can I swap factory tilt/trim from Mercury version 85hp to US Marine version 85?

I'm not sure if I'm getting this right? Does the "earlier LU" have a two piece OR one piece drive-shaft? The one piece came in two lengths 20" & 25" IF the length is correct; it should fit??? Hopefully jerry jerry and/or Nordin will tune in and verify the year(s)

Can I swap factory tilt/trim from Mercury version 85hp to US Marine version 85?

The "upper pivot bolt" as you refer to, that the the two clamps together rarely come out/apart In the top picture is still a US marine with (maybe) a Merc trim motor & apparently with typical Merc. clamp-down bolts. As for the motor on the boat.....looks to me like the old Chrysler cowl Jerry...

Can I swap factory tilt/trim from Mercury version 85hp to US Marine version 85?

IF you have the indeed have what say; then yes you can. I have done this a few times & is not too much work. You'll either have to have both motors laying on the ground or hanging off a host by crank eye-bolt Remove the bottom clamp(two bolds) & you'll see the pivot-shaft. I use an old visegrip...

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

You probably went thought / checked this already; NO FIRE OR INTERMITTENT ON ONE CYLINDER: Check stator and trigger resistance, trigger wire sets read approximately 50 ohms between the wire sets (DVA-4V or more), stator reads 680-800 ohms (factory) and 200- 300 (CDI/RAPAIR) DVA 180V or more...

Good morning Jiggz, The reading(s) are from one set blue to yellow I checked with a good working one counted the coil-windings (5) each they're (more or less) between the one blue & yellow un-installed / Bench test The two Stators that gave me a reading from one set, I stripped the wiring...

IF.....the motor has not ran for a long time; the water mixed-in with the gear-oil WILL separate & sink to the bottom. So its an easy check to see, Just a word of caution; IF there a high percentage of water in the gear-case it can/will freeze (depending on it's location)

So now I have 3 none working Stators; - two stators that don't have reading on one set of the wires - one stator that the readings are good but no fire on 3&4 I guess with the last one I can't do anything, however the first two I'm planning to strip the wires back as close as possible to the...
