    There's a hidden bolt under the exhaust-snout, remove that first & followed by one from each side alternating to prevent binding-up. you may have to tap it to come loose & be ready they're not light

    theoretically yes, but not it will not tell you if you have a (partial) restriction. The hose on tube method is more accurate!

    The pressure of water through coming out of the ear should be high enough to push the water to the pump and with the engine running it should reach the head I would drop the LU and see if there's any blockage & inspect/replace the Impeller and as pullitu already mentioned; slide a garden hose...

    Is the head-gasket replacement exactly the same? Did you remove the LU and put it back on? (pick up tube not aligned with pump) Condition of impeller?

    Most likely due to the deteriorated foam insulation in the cowl. any remaining SHOULD be removed immediately! (it will get sucked-up by the carbs.) I replaced mine with sound-absorbing blanket material, that worked really well. On idle (only) she sounds like a 4-stroke
