    Dragging caliper away from home

Other than the time we pulled over and the drum was glowing in the dark, just locked out the coupler and do what I had to do to free up the wheel. Came home with brake shoes in the back of the truck a couple of times. Had a disc sticking off and one night. Locked out the coupler and came home...

Be the one to break the trend….. Something similar in my great aunt’s family. Offspring one and three passed in their late 50’s. Offspring two and four are now in their late 60’s and still in good health The anomaly on my maternal side is that three family members were killed by trains...

Don’t know a single person with “old age” listed as the cause of death…lol You’re still a young buck at 70. My father and grandfather made to 88. Mom still lives on her own at 88. Grandmother and great grandmother made it to 95. FIL made it to 101. Mrs. Dingbat’s grandmother was 102.

    Flat tire on haul-out today . . .

A friend gave one of these to my wife for her horse trailer. I was skeptical, but it works like a charm Rated to #15K

    End of Season oil changes?

Have not changed the oil in my motor (outboard) going on 30 years now. Have not pulled the drive for inspection in as many years. I check for water in the lower unit as part of my inspection prior to putting the boat back in the slip in October. If the oil turns up moisture free at haul out...

    Loosing Faith in Humanity . . .

Fortunately, this was a diesel tractor (IH) with a Woods belly mower. It started right up, but the rear tire/inner tube would no longer hold air. Happy to wave good buy since Mrs. Dingbat had been on me to sell it for over a year.

    Modern PT lumber

We salvaged a number of 6x6 and 8x8 timbers from a timber frame barn they torn down on the property behind us. Took pegs and all. Make great rustic fireplace mantles. Gave away three. Have two left out in the barn. Don’t know what for, but I have a couple if the need comes up in the next 25...

    Modern PT lumber

Chestnut was the wood of choice for (colonial) ship builders because of its resistance to rot. Grew up in a two story, chestnut log house built in the late 1700’s. My mother donated the house to the State for use at a local historical site when she built her new home on the property in 2016...

    1988 Johnson 70hp inspection

Bored a couple of cylinder jugs on a lathe w/4 jaw chuck, but no engine blocks. A block would take forever to set up properly on that Bridgeport. Much better off using a mill designed specifically for engine work.

What kind of wood? Makes a world of a difference Our four board fence was installed circa 1985. Has 6"-8" Southern Pine post (PT) and 5/4 x 6" PT poplar boards. Had a replace a couple posts out of the 150 or so installed. Just finished replacing the 5/4" Poplar with 5/4" Oak this Spring...

    Modern PT lumber

You will not find it in big box stores, but a large maritime market combined with our proximity to the heart of yellow pine industry, makes it readily available in local lumber yards.

You can still get CCA treated but it’s not for residential work. MCA treat is the next best thing but more expensive. Other grades that are available are explained here… https://clp-inc.com/what-is-micronized-copper-azole/
