    Ayuh,..... The key won't work with the drive in gear, so jumpering the solenoid will turn the motor over, without power to the ignition,..... To manually turn the motor over with a wrench, you tighten the belt, 'n use the nut on the alternator,....

    Ayuh,...... That, is a sure fire way to strip out the crankshaft,.... Don't do that,.... Jumper the starter, or tighten the belt, 'n use the alternator,..... Anything but the crankshaft bolt,.....

    Ayuh,...... With my ole fishin' barge, a '74 Starcraft Islander, 4.3LX Merc,..... I'd go out on Lake Ontario from Sackets Harbor, run down to stoney point in the trench, or out into the main lake for salmon, 'n trout, then back,.... In all those trips, I never used a full tank of gas...

    Ayuh,.... In that case, the bearings may, or may not have been underwater all these years,..... The oil pump, most probably was underwater all these years, 'n is probably rust pitted pretty good, 'n should be inspected, or changed,....
