1986 20hp Johnson long shaft low compression

The risk of major is high if you do it. I did it ion a motor I didn’t really care about and it’s still running today but it was pure luck in my eyes. If you truly want to save the motor than as suggested pull the head and see what you got and decide from there where you want to go. Best

I would try a different gauge just for kicks. If still the same further inspection would be wise.

    Ordering Parts in Canada

There are some pretty fancy electric boats out there if you have a fat wallet. The Italian engineering is unbelievable. I live in an area where there are several ponds that don’t allow 2 strokes and only under 10hp 4 strokes. The electric outboard market is changing that but they due cost a...

    1975 Johnson 9.9

Is there any old dried up grease preventing it from moving freely? If so a tear down and cleaning might do the trick. Or you could try a new nylon lock nut that won’t back off easily. Best

    Starter not engaging

Was it the same before and after the new starter? It’s a long shot but check your battery voltage. You have just enough to spin the starter but not enough to engage the bendix.

    Help! Evinrude 70hp 1990

The flywheel key is under the big nut on top of the flywheel. You will need a puller to remove the flywheel and check the key. The key keeps the flywheel alignment on the crank in check. If the key shears your timing will be off. You will only be able to see half the key under the nut so the...

    hard to run

First off don’t use starting fluid. It has no lubricant. Use your fuel oil mix in a spray bottle or old clean and dry water bottle with a little hole in the cap to squirt fuel into the carb throat. Check to see if your getting fuel to your carb. If you are then it’s likely time to address a...

1990 Johnson 60 hp no at power full throttle, no cough or sputter

Is there a lot of growth on the hull? You can mark your prop with a marked to check and see if it is slipping. Mark the prop and the hub and after a run check to see if the mark no longer line up. With your rpm’s running high it could possibly be a spun hub. Best.
