Inherited a custom made wooden replica 1950's runabout WITHOUT an engine

Is it set up for sterndrive or inboard. I assume it is rated for 260-300 hp that a 5.7 would produce?

    Pertronix question.

Next time you have it running , shut it off, leave throttle wide open so you can see down manifold. Watch it after it is shut off and see if gas drips into manifold. Even if the gas in the fuel line drained back the carb would still be full...so would think you'd see it in the manifold if carb...

OK check list time for a parked boat for 7 years.

I would pressure test the lower unit to ensure seals are ok. If it doesnt hold pressure reseal it before putting it in the water. Not sure what boat it is in or if it was stored inside would make sure transom and stringers (if FG not aluminum) are in good shape and not rotted

    1988 Mercruser 4.3 Liter Mercruser Engine S/N B779146 Model GM 262 V-6

Exactly- doing this has served me well for many years. Years ago my grandfather motioned taking a outboard out of his shed in the spring only to have the lower case fall apart. Had water in the lube and it expanded in the winter. No sense saving $15 on lube. If I recall a Gen one only takes a...

Installing New OEM Egg Crate Foam for Engine Hatch?

Never seen it done by anything but glue. I would also think metal clips would transmit noise out... When I looked into this there were many different types of sound deadener etc as other suggested. In the end you are only limited by your wallet... If you were happy with the original sound level...

Installing New OEM Egg Crate Foam for Engine Hatch?

Something else to consider regardless of adhesive choice you will need to compress the foam against the hatch for some time until the adhesive sets up, otherwise you may not get a great bond. Maybe you can cut plywood and put at an angle to close the cover onto to compress the sound deadener...

Installing New OEM Egg Crate Foam for Engine Hatch?

Would test this out first, would think it depends on what the sound deadener was made of. Soundproof Cow was adamant I use a polyurethane adhesive like PL otherwise it wouldn't bond to foam

Installing New OEM Egg Crate Foam for Engine Hatch?

A few years back i did the same replacement . I bought the sound deadener from a place called Soumdproof Cow. They recommended using polyurethane PL adhesive that i bought at lowes or home depot…

    Flush kit install

Yes that would be it. There will only be one supply hose coming up. Would think only complication could be if u have a cool fuel set up in line

    Flush kit install

Then yes hose up from drive to water pump is where you put the at fitting. Would get a kit made of metal. My buddy had one of the plastic ones on his 7.4 / bravo 3 it cracked under way, luckily close to marina as it was filling the bilge with water… so he was taking on water , engine was...

    Pertronix question.

Yeah by carb shop i meant autoline. So bottom line they dont know what parts they are putting in their rebuilds …which is the knock on big carb rebuilders

    Pertronix question.

Agree with bondo put them in and see how it goes. if these re too rich and you cant get parts you can drill out the 70's to 72. of course you gotta be careful as they dont get smaller once you drill them out... Strange the carb shop didnt know or control what was in there 67 vs 70's ... Was...

    Pertronix question.

Would just verify the float level is correct while you have it open This is a decent primer on 2 jets of course covers a lot of carbs over a lot of years GM made them. https://www.carburetor-parts.com/assets/manuals/rochester-2gc-manual.pdf I wouldn't bother with the 68 jets, normal rule of...

    Pertronix question.

If you are confident in your float level and fuel delivery i would look at going up from the 67 jets to a 69 or 71 Based off that last plug reading. Jets are cheap so if you are buying them i would get both sizes to have.
