5.7 /Chevy 350 hard starting and stalling when idle

Absolutely will drop in and give more power. might need to step up in prop pitch if old prop was close to WOT max on 5.0. How did you go from tune up to engine swap or did I miss somewhere in here that the 5.0 is dying ...

4.3 vortec engine ( water in oil )

Not sure if you are saying my comment was ridiculous or GM putting two types of fasteners on same block... My local hardware store (old school independent) had grade 8 bolts, only specialty items were from Mcmaster Carr ( https://www.mcmaster.com/ )grade 8 studs for flywheel housing (2) and...

4.3 vortec engine ( water in oil )

Call michigan motorz im sure they could do a shortblock… but you need to take the heads and have them magnafluxed for cracks or pressure tested As they were exposed to same freezing as the block. Doesn't make sense to just do a shortblock unless you are 100 % sure the heads are not cracked. By...

    Merc/Volvo interchangeability

Strip it down to the long block and put all your merc accessories on it. Yiu could probably sell the VP accessories off the donor engine to recoup some costs .

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

based on this symptom i would cycle the man overboard kill switch on and off. If it is cut off, engine will just catch during cranking but have no spark in run… crank , just catch, then die

    Comparison of Boats for Sale

You should look through the restoration threads on this site so you can see what time and water does tot he floor, transom, and stringers of boats of this era. Would be surprised if they both didn't have damage the the fiberglass encased wood structure. Not that they can't be in good shape just...

    forward drive/bravo 4

Thanks for your input. i was thinking normal crusie would be better than a V drive. draft concerns and trailer height are potential issues. It wouldn’t be a cheap project but if it would work would be cheaper than an newer boat… and i like what i have now size wise … plus its paid for.

    forward drive/bravo 4

Yeah IPS is a little different. I have a dock/hoist in a shallow cove so having the props in front isnt real appealing either..

    Registration

Really depends on where you are. My brother went through the same registering an old Grumman 14 ft boat that belonged to my grandparents. Registration long gone etc after they passed … he went to the dmv they gave him a form , had to have a st trooper look at boat and make sure ther was no HIN...

    forward drive/bravo 4

Anybody out there using either the Volvo Forward drive or Bravo 4 drive for recreational (aka we're not that good at it...) wake surfing behind an IO boat ? Was just curious for folks that aren't that Seriou$ about it how does it work out behind a non wakeboard boat? Even if I had the...

    Spark plug heat range

That heat range mark on strap looks ok maybe a tad to hot side - wouldnt go any hotter based on what you are showing here. Actually looks really good. I cant recall where u landed for carb - did you replace it or rebuild the one you had?

    Will vehicle work?

i think you will be fine with AWD getting up the ramp unless it is atypically steep. Ill probably get hate mail but ill share my experience with similar towing needs. ive had two highlanders that i have used for short distance towing an 06 hybrid 2 wd that had a 3500 lb tow rating. My newer...

SEI Marine products...Anyone buy from them?? Quality??

Some of the SEI stuff is good. A lot of guys run their drives successfully. Just heard too much BS about their impellers. After changing my original (2004) bellows last year that were still not leaking (they were stuff and rubbing on gimbal ring) I would be hard pressed to use anyone else's...

    Shift Cable Replacement

I think you can. Also I think you also can take out the hinge pins without disconnecting the bellows from the bellhousing to get some additional room Do yourself a favor and get a factory shop manual - well worth the money for these types of repairs/questions

SEI Marine products...Anyone buy from them?? Quality??

I was going to make same comment - on the marine engine forum there is a excellent full time marine mechanic that stated when he installs their drives he takes the SEI water pump out and installs a OEM one. Do yourself a favor and get an OEM impeller. you're not saving that much money. On my...

    Shift Cable Replacement

I found it helpful if you have a V engine ( inline 3.0 there is acess) after you take the inner core out, push a weed wacker wire up through the outer sleeve and tie it off on the engine , unthread and pull outer sleeve out leaving weed wacker wire in place. Put your new outer sleeve on the weed...
