    3.8 OMC replacement motors?

Gm marine engines are essentially truck engines. Typical differences between auto and marine are camshafts, head gaskets, core plugs. the real differences are in electrical, ignition and fuel systems those are very different if you really like the boat and its in decent shape get a complete...

Lubriplate SPO 255 and Loctite 5900

Any assembly lube can be used, what ever is available locally will work fine. one caulk tube of 5900 will work .

    Dean's List gets another motor

To me that is the right way of doing it, there can be no question down the road what it was machined to And the customer is accepting these measurements/tolerances. He probably learned it the hard way early on. Unfortunately getting harder to find guys like this anymore…

Mercruiser alpha one gen 1 buzzer system

If i recall correctly on my 1990 vintage 3.0 was engine temp and oil pressure look and see on thermostat housing and stbd side of block you would need to see both a gauge sender and switch at each location fir them to alarm.

    Glastron SX 175 Gas Smell

To the op if it were mine id replace the sender gasket, tighten the clamps on the fill and vent hoses and see where that gets me. Yes hoses could be contributing but i wouldn’t get into them just yet.

    Ford 302 pinging

my merc tbolt cap had similar (but less quantity) after about 5 years.

    Ford 302 pinging

May not be trashed. What I did with the gas out of my GTO's rusty tank was let it settle in 5 gal buckets for a couple days, I used my Mityvac (vacuum oil changer) to suck off the top of it leaving the sediment/last couple qts in the bucket, pumped it back in new tank through a paint strainer...

    Ford 302 pinging

Yeah that's not good. Unfortunately looks like you have rust or other contamination in the fuel tank, you need to empty tank clean it out clean the fuel lines etc and then rebuild the carb. Had this issue with my old GTO, when I actually started driving it rust was getting kicked up from old...

Help to identify the boat year and model.

It might- is 45 is max HP - here is a 1971 catalog - I think pg 5 has what you are looking for - 50hp and 1100 lbs capacity ... amazing how light these old star crafts were https://www.starcraftmarine.com/sites/default/files/catalogs/StarCraftRunabouts2.1971_web.pdf

Exhaust component inspection due to slight overheating

would take the hose off and see you should be able to take ends off and see if tubes are clogged 172 isnt hot. My boat with 160 stat runs about 170 normally. Would rule out gauge inaccuracies as Nola suggested.

Exhaust component inspection due to slight overheating

WAG is wild azz guess what about ps cooler on back of engine did u check it for debris or blockage did you open heat exchanger and rod out passages

    Ford 302 pinging

On the Rochester there is a step up spring assy coming out of the airhorn, this opens the power valve at lower vacuum. Might be hanging up or have debris in power valve. Do you plugs look lean? Bottom line if your timing is ok you are lean

    Ford 302 pinging

I would check what the full total advance is too. Might also look at what fuel pressure is at WOT and if power valve is operating correctly (correct one in terms of vacuum it opens at in there?)- holley carb right?

    Mercruiser Engine serial numbers

Unique to your engine. No two engines would have same serial number.

    Priming a Rebuild Engine

Do it however you like either way will be fine. Leave the distributor loose so you can turn it while cranking to get it to run doesn’t hurt to dump some gas down carb to get it going. do you have a roller or flat lifter cam ?

    Priming a Rebuild Engine

Priming tool is great but if the engine is already timed- aka distributor is stabbed in I’ve also had success taking the plugs out and running it on the starter until oil is present at rockers

Serial number not correlating. What timing to use? Choke on power wire?

What do you mean by inline choke in coil to distributor wire? Never heard of inline choke…do you mean the shift interrupt?

    Not good. Maybe

because generally these winterization videos with the camco or similar system dont show draining the water out first. While some of my neighbors in upstate NY have used this for years, I wouldn't trust it to fully get freeze protection through out the block. Obviously several ways to skin the...

You can find several coolers https://www.google.com/search?q=marine+power+steering+cooler&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari you can rework hoses as needed…. But big issue is the engine has freeze damage would double down on inspecting block heads and exhaust manifolds to make sure they...
